I don’t pay much attention to UK politics, but wasn’t May against Brexit? I listened to some of her speech and it seemed like a good amount of bafflegab with a lot of feeeeelings mixed in.
She was indeed against Brexit.
The fact that she’s doing all she can to make Brexit happen is a testament to the power of a referendum in a Parliamentary system.
52% of the voters chose Brexit and turnout was high. If the PM doesn’t do a proper job of Brexit then the backbenchers would revolt. There might be a No Confidence vote. And the Conservative party would be wiped out by UKIP at the next general election.
I don’t care for May. But she’s doing well with this specific policy issue - and it’s the one that matters.
