I had to learn about the UK's rich history in that respect after my public schooling. We got a few seconds on the Magna Carta and that was it. I never heard about men like Burke, Bagehot, and Adam Smith until after college.

Thanks for the tip about Bagehot - I hadn’t heard of him before.

"I must be clear Britain wants to remain a good friend and neighbour to Europe," she said.
"Some voices are calling for a punitive deal, that punishes Britain and discourages other countries from taking the same path. That would be an act of calamitous self-harm for the countries of Europe and it would not be the act of a friend.
Nice one May!
It's the simple truth. We run a trade deficit with the EU: which means that on net, we buy their stuff, not the other way round.
At current trade levels, the UK is the largest trade partner of the EU.
If we started buying all our cars from e.g. the US, then Germany would suffer badly.
Be under no illusions though. The EU is just bat-cr*p insane enough to maim itself, just to ensure that no-one else leaves.

"contrive to dilute BREXIT"I always thought Trump's first trade deal should be w/the UK as follows:
We take your Brexit folks, you take our refugees and illegal immigrants.

I don’t pay much attention to UK politics, but wasn’t May against Brexit? I listened to some of her speech and it seemed like a good amount of bafflegab with a lot of feeeeelings mixed in.

She was indeed against Brexit.
The fact that she’s doing all she can to make Brexit happen is a testament to the power of a referendum in a Parliamentary system.
52% of the voters chose Brexit and turnout was high. If the PM doesn’t do a proper job of Brexit then the backbenchers would revolt. There might be a No Confidence vote. And the Conservative party would be wiped out by UKIP at the next general election.
I don’t care for May. But she’s doing well with this specific policy issue - and it’s the one that matters.
