Mass Shooting Reported During BPM Festival in Mexico
A mass shooting has rocked the Mexican resort town of Playa Del Carmen where the BPM Festival was wrapping up, according to reports.
Unverified witness accounts suggest four or five people were killed when shots were fired at Blue Parrot during Elrow's closing party late Sunday night or early Monday morning. A security guard was said to be among those fatally injured.
A separate shooting reportedly took place during a BPM closing party at The Jungle, where the likes of John Acquaviva, Stacey Pullen and David Berrie were booked to play. Clips purportedly captured during one shooting shows clubbers scattering and seeking refuge (see below).
DJ Jackmaster tweeted, "Someone has come into the club in Playa Del Carmen and opened fire. 4-5 dead and many wounded. Stay in ur f 'n hotel if you're here at BPM
JACKMASTER (@jackmaster) January 16, 2017 BPM announced via its Twitter account that all shows and parties have been shut down while police continue their investigations.
Concert-destination resort Riviera Maya is just 16 km away from the site of the shooting; Phish played the venue on the night of Jan 15.
The BPM fest this year was celebrating its 10th anniversary.

Eight dead, the British paper has a better accounting.
Mexico has been having riots and looting too. Gas shortages, so Government discontinued subsidies and prices too high due to devalued peso and cartels stealing gasoline from pipelines.
I have friends on Cozumel. I wish them well. Mexico is a failed state.
I just posted a fresher article. This festival is heavily advertised to American kids 18-25+. Most college kids likely would have caught the beginning of the festival and should have returned home for school last week.
British kids seem to be the majority Tweeting on the shootings.
BPM? Elrow? Can I get a translator, please?...
there is nothing, NOTHING in mexco worth your life.
True, Mexico is not worth the risk.
Did you check your mail.
not yet, on my way to work, have a good day
I think BPM is some sort of electronic dance music. Not sure if that helps.
BPM = beats per minute
