Whether Americans—white or black—like it or not, Lady Liberty is patterned after a Frenchwoman!!
No reason to change now, just to make a political point!

The mint left off “About”.

commemorative coins are historically given a lot of leeway from “standard” coins, as to what they depict
as long as commemorative coins do not try to alter directly, the depiction of something that was, or is, like the statue of liberty (which the proposed coins do not seem to do) I see no problem

Believe it or not, things like this don't bother me. I don't share the common attitude of both racial rightists and leftists that Blacks are "alien" or "un-American." They're one of the very oldest American population groups and this very idea that they are somehow "un-American" is what has gotten us all into this mess in the first place. It must be the Civil War Republican in me.
Now, the current Black political alliance with atheism, homosexuality, abortion, evolution, etc., is a completely different issue!

I misunderstood and thought they meant they were going to make the Statue of Liberty a black woman and I was going to object.
But this is a beautiful coin. I like it.
