BROWNSVILLE, Texas – President-elect Donald Trump’s pledge to build a U.S.-Mexico wall has touched off a fierce debate in the U.S. border towns that would be most affected – with local Democrats vowing to fight Trump tooth and nail if he proceeds.
“Mexico is an ally, not an enemy,” Rep. Filemon Vela, D-Texas, told FoxNews.com. “It is our second-largest trading partner, and building a wall between two countries with such important ties is a senseless and wasteful exercise."
Vela is a colorful Trump critic. He made headlines after calling the president-elect's illegal immigrant policies “hateful, dehumanizing, and frankly shameful.” In a public letter, he also advised Trump to “take your border wall and shove it up your ass.”
Vela is part of a growing number of Democratic lawmakers bracing for a fight with Trump over his proposed 1,933-mile border wall with Mexico -- one of several big immigration clashes on the horizon. Many Democratic officials in "sanctuary cities" also are preparing to battle Trump over his threat to cut their federal funding.

That's not the issue dumb sh*t.
I hate to break it to this idiot, but Mexico presently has an occupying force in the United States that equals up to and possibly more than 10% of the U.S. population.
That is not an ally under any sense of the term.
Not to mention when all totaled up, millions of Mexicans who have zero respect for American rules and laws, have cost U.S. tax payers hundred of billions every year or so.
Politicians all over this nation generally swear an oath of office.
That oath often times address and adherence to the U.S. Constitution and or the laws of our nation.
Any public official who does not comply with their oath of office should be approached by the U.S. Justice department and provided with two choices.
1. Comply with the laws of our nation
2a. Face prosecution
2b. Face a guilty verdict
2c. Face incarceration

Absolutely right, that translates into invaders.
Every last one of them should be deported.

Revoke any fed funding to their area. Problem solved.

It’s my understanding that the border is considered federal land, so they scream all they want, but in the end there is really nothing they can do to stop it once the feds start building.
Neither Mexico nor the majority of the Demonrat Party (I’m talking libs/progressives)are allies of the United States.
Thanks...I’ve wondered about that and it seems reasonable to me that you’re correct, otherwise we’d have every state on our country’s border making different policy.
Most Latino Democrat politicians want all the illegals they can get, knowing that many of them vote illegally. Texas taxpayers feed shelter, educate, investigate and incarcerate millions of illegals, the population that will vote Democrat to get goodies In the future.
Convoy them in, tilt them up, and top with a rounded cap. Once production is humming, you can eat up the miles.
