In the wake of the potential repeal of Obamacare, South Florida residents who are dependent on the law are considering, what they are calling, the potential devastating effects of repealing the law.
People who own local clinics where Obamacare is the norm are watching President-elect Trump very closely. Two thousand patients at one Wynwood clinic have Obamacare, and they are worried about what happens next....
Even if they repeal Obamacare, their insurance plans will still be in effect through the end of the year as long as they continue to pay the premiums. DJT and congress have all year to “replace” it. They can repeal it anytime.
The ugly fact of ObamaCare is that its proponents harped months and years on end about the 25 million uninsured, blah, blah, blah. Never once did they account for the fact that Medicaid and County Government and Health Services footed a huge portion of their bills via the emergency room.
Now, they up the ante with another 5 million bringing the total to 30 million who [ooga booga] will be left without that net (if you willfully neglect Medicaid and welfare state contributions). Liars all.
The dirty little ditty about ObamaCare is that these ‘subsidies’ are often relegated to Medicaid status anyway. Couple this subterfuge with the fact that the rest of the country is being penalized for allowing that obfuscation which results in much higher costs for all and a pantload of new invasive regulations and oversight.
The truth is that it would be far cheaper just to give these so-called 30 million some basic coverage and leave the rest of us alone and be done with this hateful scam.
Sounds like these are all MEDICAID patients who don’t pay a PENNY.
It gave his company the excuse to do away with retiree coverage because ObamaCare would take care of it. It’s called shifting non-producing liabilities. It barely works because retirees can’t do anything about it and those employees still working are already covered.
Clearly Obama’s legacy is more important to the media than whether any individual actually receives health care.
About 15% of exchange buyers aren't subsidized.
The fact is, the only policies available on the individual market are ACA compliant so it really doesn't matter whether they're bought through the exchange or not.
Technically, it still exists. The last time I checked, 3-4 years ago, minimum deductible was $20,000, and the cost was a couple of thousand a month. At that point, I can self-insure. What's the point?
Doubtful. Unfortunately Trump is kind of at the mercy of what Congress does. And I have little faith that they won't screw it up even worse.
I have friends in the same situation.
It's extortion on the part of the government and IMO, is illegal.
They should all get their money back.
Companies have been dropping these benefits for years without needing the ACA as an excuse.
Using the government's own figures (https://aspe.hhs.gov/report/health-insurance-marketplace-2015-average-premiums-after-advance-premium-tax-credits-through-january-30-37-states-using-healthcaregov-platform), 87 percent of the people buying Obamacare insurance receive a subsidy. Of the 20 million people that Obama brags are on Obamacare, most are really receiving Medicaid. Only about 7 million actually pay for insurance. Thus, only 13 percent of 7 million people actually pay for Obamacare insurance and get a subsidy. That's 900,000 people. - 0.3 percent of the US population. Of those, most had insurance BEFORE Obamacare, and paid less for it than they do now.
Well, yes. But not with such abandon. It’s the perfect excuse to shed the liability.
“Clearly Obamas legacy is more important to the media than whether any individual actually receives health care.”
Obama’s legacy is paramount to the media. He is their boy. They have propped him up and obfuscated the truth about him and kissed his brown butt for eight years. They are losing credibility at such a rapid pace now. Obamas legacy will not be something to hold in any regard.
The Marxists once again yelling fire in a crowded theater.
Right, but that means that none of the people buying off-exchange are receiving the subsidies. When Obamacare is repealed all of this insurance will disappear immediately.
Too many people I know spend their (hard earned?) money on frivolous things or stupidly at convince type places instead of using their money wisely, and budgeting a portion to have been able to pay for health insurance. (Granted some people have true need for help with health care due to truly unforeseen or not self made disease/medical situation)
I have maintained my own health insurance for at least 15 years and in the last 7 years seen premiums jump to more than triple my for my original coverage, copays double, deductible I had to raise it from 1,500 to 10,000 just to maintain some coverage and not quit mine to take a ride on obamacare.
Many of today’s citizens act first and think later, when it’s too late and they realize they are in need(again) or a worsening situation.
Been there, so I sympathize, but one has to be willing to pick up the reigns and steer a new direction not same path that continues to lead to lack.
I too thought it was an excellent summation of the situation.
He explained it to us “little people” in words we can understand, and at the same time kicked the ball not only back to the dems court, but right in their smarmy faces.
He’s double dog daring the “gang of 8 clowns” to obstruct.
Dumbocrats do not understand the concept of insurance......simpletons that they are.
Insurance is based on covering “pools of people.”
Those looking at the repeal of their Obama coverage are a “pool” needing coverage.
Yep. And now see nothing but boo hoo FAKE NEWS regarding the Death Panel Law.
Never do you see them interviewing folks whose premiums have soared.
The question is what will replace it in the individual market.
If guaranteed issue remains, which every politician I know is in favor of, the new policies won't be much different.
