I-70 is CLOSED both directions on Vail Pass due to an avalanche across the Interstate. Closures are in place at Exit 180/Vail and Exit 195/Copper Mountain. All EB CMV's must use Exit 133/Dotsero for staging. Crews are working to clear the roadway and perform additional mitigation work to ensure traveler safety. CO 91 and US 24 are the alternate routes, but delays are expected to be lengthy. Expected to be an extended closure of the interstate. *Avalanche potential is high over most mountain passes, expect delay for control work over many mountain roads* US 40 over Berthoud Pass is also closed for Avalanche Control work Last Updated: 01/10/2017 10:34 AM
unexpected
I hope no vehicles are in it.
Women, minorities, children most affected...
Trump’s fault
Al Sharpton to hold a news conference to proclaim snow white privilege.
Damn Russian hackers....
Years ago I had gone over Berthoud Pass after the Bus got hit by a giant boulder and knocked off the road.
I don’t like that pass in big snows or in rains.
Just for the record, this is not my fault.
That’s a cool link with links to all the traffic cameras in the state.
Californication Temporarily Suspended...
The news has a picture of a semi “in it”. Not covered, but definitely was there when the snow came down or just after and hit it.

They also have GPS on the snow plows. So you can see where snow plows are and where they have cleared.
I’m waiting on the western slope for Berthoud Pass to reopen. Need to get to Denver today, ugh.
This article says that semi and two other vehicles. Up to 15 feet deep in places.

You better get a good book and a big pot of coffee.
I-80 is also close due to a mudslide in the Sierra Navadas
“They also have GPS on the snow plows.”
Good to know but I’m only a summertime “go to Colorado” person. I have no interest in winter activities as I figured out years ago that skiing is not in my wheelhouse.
Might want to go south to 160 (Cortez).
