WASHINGTON, Jan. 5, 2017 - The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) today announced the seven retail firms selected to take part in a pilot designed to enable Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) participants to purchase their groceries online. The two-year pilot is slated to begin this summer.
"Online purchasing is a potential lifeline for SNAP participants living in urban neighborhoods and rural communities where access to healthy food choices can be limited," USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack said. "We're looking forward to being able to bring the benefits of the online market to low-income Americans participating in SNAP."

“Now install toilets in the sofas...”
By George, I think you’ve hit on something, but it could still lead to problems.
“I tood you...CLOSE THE TOILET LID WHEN YOU FINISH!”
“How’m I gonna watch Okra with dat stank comin’ outta dat hole?”
“AND, stop throwing your beer bottles in the commode. You know dey ain’t gonna flush down. Das why I done brought the trashcan in da living room. Oh, you need to roll the trashcan out to da curb...the garbage man be coming today.”
Yes, it is. Money laundering is the word for it.
Enabling anonymous buys one should be able to get a lot more for their “free” purchases. I guess now we will hear that not 1 in 5 but 3 in 5 children are hungry because parents sell use of their EBT cards and the free school breakfast and lunch just are not enough.
Set up ####ing foo bundles at the church and that’s what they get.
I get chicken at 79 cents a pound!! It’s healthy and cheap.
Shoprite has dollar deals on beans and campbell’s all the time.
You want to live like a king, get a ####ing job
They are HEAVY addicts. And 20 something guys or gals, who, absent the drugs, would be perfectly healthy to work.
I have a heart. Give them inpatient for however long and then cut them off.
Do you realize that SNAP/EBT/WIC is the largest customer of Walmart, Kroger, Safeway, Piggly Wiggly? Far larger than you or me individually.
And, the really disgusting fact is that YOU and I are the ones who are footing their bill!! WE the Taxpayer are providing this ‘revenue’ to these retailers. OUTRAGEOUS!
Here are these retailers, as listed in your link....
Retailers - Pilot States*
Amazon - Maryland, New Jersey, New York
FreshDirect - New York
Safeway - Maryland, Oregon, Washington,
ShopRite - Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania
Hy-Vee, Inc. - Iowa
Hart’s Local Grocers - New York (based in Rochester)
Dash’s Market - New York (based in Buffalo)
You bet! And I say that anyone with a computer and time to go on the internet has time to go to work for a living.
STOP the handouts to those lazy people who can work. If they are UNABLE to work, helping them is the right thing to do.
“UNABLE” is not the same as UNWILLING!
Just one more thing we can add to the trash heap of “O,s” legacy. What could go wrong with this idea?
“...fit out the front door...”
LOL. But now we will have to pay for any ID theft on these cards, too, so poor little Tubbo is not disenfranchised by the loss of funds. No! Hell no! Make them walk to get their freebees.
You make a good point about anonymity. So make a gateway server into which the losers must login for access to the “authorized” online sellers. That way we know pretty much all there is to know about the buyer, the items purchased, frequency, etc.
Just don’t give ebt cards to addicts and cry the children are hungry. Inpatient or whatever the parents are responsible to feed their children before buying drugs.
One of our friend is on SNAP. He was shot 5 times, so it left him with seizures, so he gets SSI and EBT. He was an accountant, but now, he is unemployed. ConservaTeen hires him at times for helping him with lawns. 5 bulets in his head and still trying to work, but he sees what people buys with EBT Junk foods.I see it, too.
