Yet another shooting at yet another gun-free zone occurred today. At this moment 5 people were murdered and another 8 injured. The tragedy today at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport is all the more disappointing because just this last year legislators tried to change Floridas ban on concealed carry at airports to avoid todays type of event.
Florida Sen. Wilton Simpson, R-Trilby warned last year the legislation was needed because airport terminals could become more of a target for terrorists and criminals.
Florida is one of on six states that ban people being able to carry guns at airports. While the Federal government bans guns at airports past security, Florida has gone much farther and bans licensed carry inside the entire terminal. Airports are often crowded places and have frequently been attractive targets to terrorists around the world.

Hard to call it a “gun free zone” if the shooter brought his weapon in legitimately, yes?
Stupid MonkeyAss wan williams on Fox thinks now baggage claim needs to be locked down too.
When are they going to get rid of that toad.
Luggage retrieval areas, at least in Tampa, are not “sterile” zones. One can conceal carry in that area. Don’t know the setup in Ft. Lauderdale, but most baggage areas are well out of any secure zone in airports.
Hearing the same from the Fox Business folks. BS!
It is not permitted to carry firearms in common areas in Florida airports, so no, it is very easy to call it a gun free zone.
No security in that baggage claim. I’m in Lauderdale, and I was in that same baggage claim Wednesday night. The #2 terminal. Nothing there. You walk right in off the street. There are doors from each baggage claim leading straight outside. To pull this off would be nothing at all for a disturbed individual. There are also no security guards unless one is passing through there at that particular moment
That is a felony to do so...it is against the law to carry a weapon inside of any airport terminal in the State of FL. The exception is if it is locked in check-in baggage.
After this, they may start putting metal detection doorways into baggage claim outer doors. Which wouldn’t have stopped this shooting. And which will make a city jihadi have to go a block away and shoot up a restaurant or hotel instead.
Thank you! I do stand corrected. However, I don't know when they changed the law.
I admit that I’ve only read the excerpt.
The shooter in Ft. Lauderdale had gun and ammo in checked luggage. He was NOT a concealed carrier of a weapon.
After deplaning he retrieved his luggage and went to a restroom. There, he got his gun and several magazines of ammo and exited to begin shooting random people in the baggage claim area.
Florida is one of the few states that prohibits CHL holder’s from carrying inside amy portion of the terminal. federal law only applys to the TSA secured side of the terminal. He broke the law by loading up inside the terminal building a state jail felony but laws don’t stop criminals now do they. I fly a lot for work and I carry EVERY TIME I fly checked in my bags most states let you arm up before they dump you in the rental car shuttles to some dark pick up outside the airport. I avoid Florida, Nevada, new York NJ like I would an ebola hotzone. fortunately my line of work is offensive to those liberals and we won’t invest a cent in enemy territory. FRACK ON!
