It is worldwide. Before Trump’s election, “nationalizaton” (vs. “globalization”) and “populist” were both epithets, virtually the equivilent to “racist.” The Left had claimed the high ground on these terms and basically cowed people (who thought they were in the minority) who honestly thought their country’s interest should come first.
Brexit was considered an aberration by a physically and currency isolated group of people. Nervous-making but nothing that can’t be dealt with.
Trump’s win has emboldened Juan, Joe, Dieter, Ivan, etc. that not only is “nationalism” OK but it is the DOMINANT philosophy. These guys now feel they can proudly and loudly (stole that back from the lefties) declare they care about their country first.
Future historians will point to the (now inevitable) fall of the EU to the election of Trump, giving credit to Brexit for starting it.

You may be right.

You took the words out of my mouth. It's no accident that before Trump's victory we had Brexit, EU-skeptical nationalists in Poland and Hungary. Similarly, on the heels of Trump's victory we see the rise of Geert Wilders' fortunes in Holland, Marine Le Pen's in France, etc.

Until recently, the debate between "Left" and "Right" was restricted to two flavors of globalism. The globalist left wanted internationalism with more bureacracy and government regulation. The globalist right wanted internationalism with a little less bureaucratic oversight and regulation. Neither questioned the fundamental assumption that destroying national sovereignty, opening the borders, and outsourcing money and industry were fundamentally good things.

Now, instead of their fake debate over tactics, we have a real debate over the assumptions. That's why so many establishment Republicans covertly (and sometimes not so covertly) supported Hillary, and why European pseudo-conservatives like Merkel will eventually form coalitions with Socialists against rising nationalist parties.

College students ALWAYS revel in thinking/acting "outside the box."

The problem with college students is that they all think outside the box the same way, which isn't really thinking outside the box at all.

I like THAT... Liberal losers who couldn’t get or keep a job (of any kind) except on a university campus, telling everyone ELSE how to live and what to think!

“Commitment becomes hysterical when those who have nothing to give advocate generosity, and those who have nothing to give up preach renunciation.”

At least, Geert Wilders visited the middle east: Israel AND neighboring Arab countries. He could NOT have visited the KSA as it's invitation only, but he DID see, I'm sure, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Bahrain, Iran and Iraq.
SO, his opinion IS based on some first-hand information.

For instance, Johnny has a silver tongue-ring, and the holes in his earlobes are stretched out about 1 inch. His pal Joey is very different - he has a gold tongue-ring in his ear lobes are stretched 1.5 inches. That's their "individuality."

Bigger doom: Trump appointees will be the ones appointing the people who review research grant proposals.

Research projects that do not convincingly specify how they will help Make America Great Again will NOT get funding.

Yep.

We have always heard the moaning about "diversity."
Well, diversity of THOUGHT is what is important, not skin color diversity. Diversity of thought CAN happen anywhere, if people are given the chance to think that way.

Those college students will change like magic when they go job hunting. You KNOW that.

Reality catches up with idealist dream bubbles.

Back in the 90’s, some liberal put out a bumper sticker in blue with white letters that said “Celebrate Diversity.” Like the pod people in Invasion of the Body Snatchers, every liberal soon had to have a “Celebrate Diversity” bumper sticker on their car. Until one day someone pointed out on the radio, “Has anyone noticed that all those “Celebrate Diversity” bumper stickers look exactly alike?” Almost by the next day after I heard that, the bumper stickers were gone.

Diversity in appearance ... uniformity in thought.

Thanks for my first big laugh of the day. And, I wish it would happen just like that.
