The Republican-led House on Thursday approved a bill that would require congressional approval before any major regulation can take effect, a reflection of GOP frustration with what they consider onerous rules from eight years of the Obama administration.

The House passed the measure overwhelmingly along party lines, 237-187. The vote is just one of several that GOP leaders are planning in the early days of the 115th Congress to overhaul how regulations are made and to repeal specific rules enacted during President Barack Obama’s final months in office.

Supporters argued that excessive government regulations have led to higher prices for consumers, fewer jobs and slower economic growth. They said Congress should have more say before the regulations are enacted because lawmakers are directly accountable for their votes.

“It does not prohibit new major regulation. It simply establishes the principle, ‘no major regulation without representation,’” said Rep. Bob Goodlatte, R-Va. …

They passed the REINS Act before but it died in the Senate due to an Obama veto threat.

Trump will sign it into law once he assumes office.

“major regulation”

This is known as plausible deniability.

When is the last time you heard a democrat wanting to reduce regulations? The more regulations, the more government is necessary to enforce them.

Obama relied on regulations to make an end run around Congress.

This loophole is being eliminated.

“Ok, but congress / Trump need to get rid of 80% of EXISTING regulations.”

Have we already forgotten the contempt we had for the GOPe and the rest of our irredeemably corrupt and depraved political class just a few weeks ago?

This new requirement for congressional approval is just the same thing the GOPe has been doing for decades. Perhaps it slows our race for the cliff, but it doesn’t change our direction.

Only the elimination of a few boxcars worth of regulations can do that. I don’t know what percentage that would be, but 80 is certainly not too much.

Not fair. The House is trying to beat Trump to the punch.

Well, no matter I suppose. Winning is winning.,

Not enough votes to over ride Ozero’s veto.

That’s the GOP-e’s line all right. As Yoda might say, always with them it cannot be done.
