Meredith Vieira Shoots Down Bianna Golodryga's Criticism of Open Carry Law
Legal Insurrection ^ | Mark Finkelstein

As soon as Yahoo’s Bianna Golodryga said she didn’t want to “turn political,” you knew that was precisely what she was about to do. But when Golodryga proceeded to criticize the Texas open-carry law this morning, you might be surprised that it was Meredith Vieira who—excuse the expression—shot her down.

Vieira was a guest on Morning Joe to discuss a documentary, for which she served as executive producer, about the University of Texas Tower shootings in 1966, in which Charles Whitman shot 49 people, killing 16. The gun-control shoe was bound to drop, and after her “not to turn political,” Golodryga launched into a criticism of the new Texas open-carry law, fretting that it could prevent UT from attracting “students and the top talent in teaching for fear of this law.”

Retorted Vieira: “It’s interesting. On that day, the students were allowed to carry on campus and the police relied on them. One of the police — they didn’t have SWAT teams back then and they didn’t have the equipment either to get to somebody who was up in the tower. So they were asking students: does anybody have a shotgun? The police themselves didn’t have shotguns. And the students helped them.”

facts are irrelevant to gun grabbers and they’re always the same people who want govt to control everything. Fascists who want a disarmed population.

Its become obvious to rational people who have witnessed the carnage in Orlando, San Bernadino and Istanbul, that you either shoot back or die. Unfortunately there is no evidence that these atrocities will be ceasing.

Interesting she would mention the fact that the police were relying on citizens to properly arm themselves.

Back during WWII, authorities setup checkpoints near the coasts to try to catch any German sub crews trying to infiltrate. It was old men and boys not quite old enough for military service who manned the checkpoints, and they were all asked to bring their own weapons.

Older and wiser.

I saw Meredith Vieira in person once. She was doing a live spot at the tickertape parade for the returning US Embassy hostages in 1981, and I was there.

She was kind of dishy.

Before I get all weak in the knees for Meredith Vieira (View Alum), I would like to see the whole piece. For me, all she did was state a fact from a piece of history; I did not hear her giving unwavering support for open carry but it was nice she didn’t keep her liberal mouth shut.
