I agree with your last sentence.
But it seems to me that Trump says "Make America Great Again" and the Left says: "That's racist: you mean you want to bring back Jim Crow!!"
You can't really talk with people like that. I'm not sure there is a way we "should be talking". We can be as inclusive as we possibly can and the Left will just say: "That's parochial, you only care about rich white men". It's kind of a hopeless struggle, in my opinion.
For my part, I do try to talk is a positive, inclusive manner so that we can help 100% of Americans. I just don't pay a whole lot of attention to how the Left responds.
