I would add, we should also start referring to our states as blue states.

Red was associated with Communist/Leftist ideology. The media chose to change the colors after Reagan, so they did.
Here is a Reagan win map. Notice the colors are blue for Reagan's won states.
We are true blue, and they are Leftist red.
