President-elect Donald Trump on Tuesday attacked General Motors in a tweet, claiming the auto giant is making a Chevy Cruze model in Mexico and then sending them to U.S. dealers tax free.
"General Motors is sending Mexican made model of Chevy Cruze to U.S. car dealers-tax free across border. Make in U.S.A.or pay big border tax!" Trump said on Twitter...

Go Trump!
Get rid of unions, lower business taxes, etc.
If we use all sticks and no carrots we may as well be the democrats (see Atlas Shrugged).
Don’t think we can get rid of unions but we can certainly lower taxes and regulations. That said, you can’t require US production to have required massive labor, environmental and other regulatory costs and then allow MNCs to skirt every last law by building 20 miles south of the border and import tariff free, especially since our goods that get sent there (and Europe/other places) get a VAT tax added there.
Yet, your average American socialist (masquerading as a democrat) will decry all of the above as an assault against the working man and favoring the wealthy. Anytime we do something to help business, the leeches start demanding their share, even though the leeches have done nothing to deserve it. That's our conundrum.
Hear, hear! What you said!
Just make all states right-to-work and remove compulsory union dues. That right there will gut most of the unions.
Per the 10th amendment, it’s a state issue so it can’t be done at the federal level unless you get a amendment, which won’t happen.
He didn’t say where in the US they need to be manufactured. Being that GM is owned now in part by the union, they are going to have to make some tough choices. Either pay the import tax or locate in Right-to-Work states because they will never be able to hit the price target if they are in compulsory union states.
“Just make all states right-to-work and remove compulsory union dues. That right there will gut most of the unions.”
As well as a huge percentage of Democrat Party revenue.
Actually, let’s just use some the same logic that courts have just accepted to force gay marriage on us all. DOMA meant that the states had delegated the right to regulate marriage the Feds, so the Feds could decide what marriage meant.
The National Labor Relations Board, therefore, means that the states have delegated regulation of labor unions to the Feds.
Alternately: Labor unions are almost always inter-state organizations and the manufacturing sector unions make things intended for sale inter-state. Therefore, the Interstate Commerce clause can be used to regulate them.
Either way, problem solved.
Imagine that. Yes, I know it does that too - see Wisconsin for the latest example of it.
I anticipate a rebalancing of the scene. This won’t be Smoot-Hawley redux, with no tax cuts to put the carrot and stick on the opposite sides of the border from where they had been.
The US taxpayer saved GM. Is it expecting too much that they make their cars for the US market in the US?
Interesting line of thought. Courts have been known to pick up such novel lines of reasoning.
Yeah... this isn’t even like it’s about Ford. Please don’t add insult to injury, dear Obama Motors.
GM responded that the ones sold in the US are made in OH.
Foreign Producers eg GM,
hate you,
hate your liberty,
hate Christianity,
actively finance military invasion of your town.
But they always get a pass eg WW2, WW1.
Subjects are stupid, I guess.
USA could make ALL their own products AND export some.
Always was that way. It made citizens rich.
Winning.
