Gun control laws do not seem to be working too well in Chicago.
Now compare the 795 homicides in Chicago to runs scored by teams in the 2016 baseball season. Thugs in the city of Chicago had an impressive year. Only three teams scored more runs than Chicago's homicides -- Red Sox, Rockies, and Cubs. At least you have to give credit to the Cubbies for being one of the three.

I want to see another comparison, which would be the crime rate, or rates of shooting per capita based on population.
I’ve checked online but haven’t found it.
But I was interested because I’ve read that the black population of Chicago is estimated to have declined by about 100,000 since the 2010 census.
Off topic, but many of these black residents aren’t moving from Chicago to suburbs, but are moving out of Illinois entirely to other states, mostly because of greater economic opportunity elsewhere.
Back to topic, with an increase in the absolute number of shootings, the vast majority black on black crime, combined with an absolute decrease in the black population of Chicago, suggests that the rate of shootings has greatly escalated, beyond what we might think based on absolute numbers of shootings.
Then again, considering the blacks moving out of Chicago are the most ambitious, law abiding productive residents, the group of blacks left behind will tend to result in a greater concentration of gang types and assorted criminal elements left behind.
IIRC the NYPD is still policing the city pretty much in the way that Rudy Giuliani ordered when he first took office.I guess the CPD is policing their city in a way that a certain particularly well known community organizer would demand.

Rahm Emmanuel once said he wanted Chick Fil A out of town, because they didn’t represent “Chicago values”. And I wondered what the heck he meant; what are Chicago values? Gang shootings???
Wouldn’t he rather have greater business activity from a legitimate business such as Chick Fil A, rather than more of the “business activity” of the youth gangs????
Off topic, but I once saw one of those daytime shows with people who have life issues. Anyway, on one episode, a woman and her BF were there. Her BF looked and sounded like a stereotypical gang member. And she said how he works from midnight to 8 or 9 am to support them. God knows what work he’s doing overnight to support his GF and their child.......Does Rahm Emmanuel really want more of this sort of gang activity???? Does Rahm think that the youth gangs provide job opportunities to black youth?????

NYCity population... 8.5 million -350 murders.
Chicago population 2.5 million -795 murders.
Without doing the math, the murder rate in Chicago is ~8 times higher than NYC.
DeBlasio hasn’t ####ed it up as much as I thought he would.
But he’s done enough that if he wins again, I dont know.
He also had the advantage of a lot of really bad guys being put away under Rudy and yes, even Bloomberg.
When asked if blacks are targeted more, Bloomberg said based on stats, whites are targeted too much.
How can he give such a great answer an be an ###hole on guns at the same time.
I can’t find the article, but I seem to recall reading that some larger population areas are pretty good at aggressively under-reporting crime statistics, including murder and other violent crimes.
so the number of murders without an arrest would be Unanswered Runs, and cases that were tried but lost equal Unforced Errors

Total homicides 795, however Chicago PD has three dozen open “death investigations” which they didn’t add to tally. It’s well over 1,000.

My thoughts are Trump will come in to Chiraq, have press conference laying it all out and call up National Guard under DHS rules or have Gov do it, lock down the west sides and south sides war zones, establish curfews, stop and frisk, ID checks. I’ve read there are 59 street gangs in drug turf war.
