Trump presidency puts California Legislature in defense mode

As California lawmakers return to Sacramento on Wednesday, liberal dreams of expanding safety-net benefits and providing health coverage to immigrants are giving way to a new vision revolving around a feverish push to protect gains racked up in the past.

After years of pushing forward a progressive agenda, legislative Democrats will be pushing back against conservative policies from President-elect Donald Trump and the Republican Congress.

Instead of expanding Medi-Cal health coverage to adult immigrants who can’t prove they’re legally in the country, Democrats are now concentrating on how to retain health coverage for those who already have it. And anti-poverty groups are focused on preventing cuts to food stamp and welfare programs rather than trying to expand them as planned. …

Cali needs a wake-up call, and nothing does that more than the Feds taking away their freebies and funding.

Cali looks like they wrote checks and IOU's to illegals that they will not be able to cash under the Trump administration.

CALexit 2018

Wouldn't that be excellent. The Dems would never get over 200 electoral votes without Cali.

Cali bought illegal immigrant votes with the expectation that Hitlery would win and reimburse them (bail them out). That has not happened. They should be panicked.

California does have the option of seceding from the Union. Precedent says, this would not go well.

But what the heck, it may well be less bloody for them to go that route, than to try to persuade Trump to give them anything but short shrift.

If I was in the Trump Administration, I would slap them with a civil rights lawsuit for disparate impact on minorities because of this.

“every conservative should support CALexit”

So what about those conservatives like me and millions like me who are life-long residents of California! You gonna tell the Robinson’s to GTFO of California too? If you had a scintilla of grey matter I’d be worried, but you don’t! You’re all horn but no driveshaft!
Happy New Year! BTW, what is a “vooch?” I think I had one of them removed from my backside a while back.

Trump should send all illegals to CA since they love them so much.

“Look for massive defunding at all levels of California government. YES!!”

As a life-long Californian, I hope that Trump can cause this worthless government here to go under. They will stop being elected when they can no longer distribute decent people’s hard-earned money, starting with the Federal bucks.

Now’s the time for us to go on the offensive here in California.

I disagree. A Calexit would turn California into a Mexico very soon, and the liberal will quickly turn other states into a California, like NV, AZ, UT etc. So a Calexit would expand Mexico. The correct way to round up the liberals in CA and send them back to Mexico.

Mexico would like a “Calexit” very much, since the past succession of governments are Alta California revanchists.

They can have southern California. We take everything north of the American river. I want lake Tahoe and the northern red counties.

All I know is the other 49 states would be infinitely better without CA leftist pull. Those 55 EV’s kill us.

Nope. Not while there’s a chance of reform, which the present Sacramento government indicates is possible. And certainly not about to shrink our borders or give up coastline, private property and arable land to the Mexicans.
