Democratic senators plan to aggressively target eight of Donald Trump's Cabinet nominees in the coming weeks and are pushing to stretch their confirmation votes into March - an unprecedented break with Senate tradition.
Such delays would upend Republican hopes of quickly holding hearings and confirming most of Trump's top picks on Inauguration Day. But Democrats, hamstrung by their minority status, are determined to slow-walk Trump's picks unless they start disclosing reams of personal financial data they've withheld so far, according to senior aides.
Incoming Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer, D-N.Y., has told Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., that Democrats will hone in especially on Rex Tillerson, Trump's choice for secretary of state; Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., Trump's choice for attorney general; Rep. Mick Mulvaney, R-S.C., tapped to lead the Office of Management and Budget; and Betsy DeVos, set to serve as education secretary.
There's also Rep. Tom Price, R-Ga., Trump's pick to lead the Department of Health and Human Services and oversee changes to Obamacare, who is set to be attacked by Democrats for his support for privatizing Medicare. Andrew Puzder, a restaurant executive set to serve as labor secretary, will face scrutiny for past comments on the minimum wage, among other policies. Steve Mnuchin, a former Goldman Sachs partner set to serve as treasury secretary, and Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt, Trump's pick to lead the EPA, will also be the focus of Democratic attacks, aides said.

After I sign some executive orders I'll be off. I've left instructions that no one is authorized to act for the departed heads of departments, who are all removed. When you confirm my appointments, we can run the government. Until then, consider it shut down.
Lol. 8 cabinet appointments.
Trump is gonna have these AssClown in the fetal position in his first 100 days. The Wall, deportations, Joint operations with Vlad on ISIS, cutting taxes/regulations etc.
Trump is a worker, and will expect results. Those in the way won’t be there long.
Go TRUMP
Why would that change. I like my neighbor’s pit bull more than a copperhead in my own yard. That doesn’t mean I trust him.
...a chance to assassinate the character of the nominee...
Those tactics didn’t work so well against Trump.
Ah but Mrs. Turtle doesn't get her appointment until all the others get theirs. Turtle knows that Trump knows that Turtle knows that.
Trump will have to fight tooth and nail over everything, especially in the Senate since there is only a two vote margin.
The dems will delay, delay and even do more delaying because that is all they can do.
On major votes, Trump will need 60 Senate votes, so he is going to have to compromise or not see something pass. It is just the way it is.
“Cry Havoc and let slip the dogs of war.” Harry Reid started it and Trump will end it. He will end it on his terms not Schumer’s!
And the GOPeers have to pretent to have a spine to avoid the torches and pitchforks of their base who want their scalps.
“... the democrats have rights in the Senate that nobody can take away ...”

That is simply not true.
But do the republicans have the fortitude to shut them down?
30 hours, it should be noted that no one cares. Only really political people care about this crap. It will be a big deal to people who visit political sites but no one else in the country will care. Rex Tillerson got billions from a major oil cooperation, he’s completely compromised and is a stooge of the muslims AND the Russians (how that is actually possible is irrelevant). The only thing that matters is does he get confirmed. Repukes control that. John McCain and Linda will make hay about Rex but hopefully it doesn’t go beyond those two fools. I suspect he should get some cross over support. The country is really missing leadership. Does anyone believe that Bernie Sanders is worried about the fact that Rex can have a conversation with Vladimir? He’s all about no war too, he’s just not supporting the idea because Trump is proposing it. Otherwise he’d be all for the non interventionist idea. McCain is a jerk but I don’t suspect he won’t give Rex and up and down vote even if he votes against him.Other than Rex the repukes are probably ok with everyone else anyways so the Theater will be fun for politicos but that’s about it. My suggestion. Ignore politics until the confirmation crap is out of the way if you value your sanity.
Don’t be naïve. Trump will need McConnell to get things through the senate. McConnell is more important to Trump than Schumer is.
Mr. Schumer. My government cannot write social security checks for retirees in your state until I have a treasurer who can attest to the funds being there and transferred to the right accounts. And I am not sending on the commission for my treasurer until I can send on the commissions for State, Defense, EPA and Energy and....
You can explain to your voters why they are not getting their checks. Or I can. Your choice.
I live in D.C. I am not naive. But this circus has not had a master since Reagan left office. McConnell’s cooperation is what was bought with his wife’s nomination to Transportation.
I never said anyone cares about the machinations of governing in the Senate. But your ignorance in not understanding how things work only propel fake posts and other misunderstandings in how things get done. They will get done, but it won’t happen in an hour and it won’t all happen in January.
The system is so corrupt that it could be a while before Trump get his cabinet members. In the meantime he could fire the existing communists leaders and hold the spot for his pick. I believe he has this right without consent of Senate.
Just 8, only non RINOs?
And McConnell can go along and win big or he can run opposition and lose big. But Mitch is no longer master of his fate.
F em
We all must back Trump to the end on this crap. Nail the Commie B_tards to the wall.
He’ll have a Come to Jesus meeting with Schumer and say listen, we can do this one of two ways. One, you knock this crap off and we can talk about stuff you want to get done over the upcoming 4 to 8 year period, or Two, you screw around with my cabinet confirmations and I will declare Fargin’ War against you, and you will not so much as be able to rename a post office. Your choice, Chuckie.
No.
She gets hers when the Senate gives it to her, whatever happens with the rest.
But, yes, there was likely an agreement struck with the Turtle. Of some sort.
