If you want to know why Trump won, just look at the response to his winning. The lofty contempt for ‘low information’ Americans. The barely concealed disgust for the rednecks and cretins of ‘flyover’ America who are apparently racist and misogynistic and homophobic. The haughty sneering at the vulgar, moneyed American political system and how it has allowed a wealthy candidate to poison the little people’s mushy, malleable minds. The suggestion that American women, more than 40 per cent of whom are thought to have voted for Trump, suffer from internalised misogyny: that is, they don’t know their own minds, the poor dears. The hysterical, borderline apocalyptic claims that the world is now infernally screwed because ‘our candidate’, the good, pure person, didn’t get in.
This response to Trump’s victory reveals why Trump was victorious. Because those who do politics these days — the political establishment, the media, the academy, the celeb set — are so contemptuous of ordinary people, so hateful of the herd, so convinced that the mass of society cannot be trusted to make political decisions, and now those ordinary people have given their response to such top-down sneering and prejudice. Oh, the irony of observers denouncing Middle America as a seething hotbed of hatred even as they hatefully libel it a dumb and ugly mob. Having turned America’s ‘left behind’ into the butt of every clever East Coast joke, and the target of every handwringing newspaper article about America’s dark heart and its strange, Bible-toting inhabitants, the political and cultural establishment can’t now be surprised that so many of those people have turned around and said… well, it begins with F and ends with U.
Totally agree. I work not too far away from that hospital. Also have an in-law of an in-law who is a nurse at that same hospital and was standing right there when they rolled the guy back into ER. So I was a bit scared at the time.
I clearly remember thinking, the democrats are willing to let parts of America turn into a plague zone, all in the name of diversity and political correctness. Pretty sure many others were thinking the same.

Redneck, now you’ve really got my attention. Would you mind explaining just what constitutes an “unspiritual, atheistic view”? And while you’re at it, would you also explain more about the Christian view of dealing with the demons and how that releases those enslaved to them? Come now, don’t be hesitant, I don’t mind at all being to proselytized.
I can’t proselytize you, not one bit.
First you have to be “proselytized” by the almighty God, whose signature is extremely apparent in current events, except to those who are up that Egyptian river (denial). And not even God will drag you out of that river if you really wouldn’t ever want it. He’s perfectly content to let you go la la la la I don’t hear you, forever and ever.
But anyhow, I can attempt to share some observations.
One can haul out a bible and check them out, but we see it happening in modern times too. The bible simply gives us a realistic history that goes much further back than our modern times, as well as a realistic projection forward (actually, an infallible prophecy, but I’m not here right now to debate that theology).
People are fickle. That should be no surprise. Since when has that not been the case? One would have to go to a time prior to the sin of Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden.
Myriads of factors figure into the lives of fickle people. The bible, from the start, gives an insight into the otherworldly nature of some of them. There’s a heaven; there’s also a hell. And then there is the mysterious thing we know as attitude, and its result, another mysterious thing we know as choice.
Anyhow, treating people, even ones who are evil now, as robots, does them (and the God who created them) a horrible disservice — tells a horrible lie about them. It was Alinsky, I believe, who came up with the “polarize and freeze” philosophy, as though this very important distinction were not true (but, people can be browbeat, sometimes, into thinking it true — a kind of insidious psychological warfare against them).
Anyhow, I won’t be a party to such psychological warfare against people who may now be my enemies. Because that heavily tends to become self fulfilling, and the problem is now harder, rather than easier, to deal with.
As Abraham Lincoln said, “I destroy my enemies. I make them my friends.”

Okay, Redneck, whatever you say. And by the way, you’re a funny guy (I assume you’re a guy), but I have question. Do you have any friends?
So basically I’m not even caviling at your moniker... fortune favors the strong.
I’m making observations about what “strong” needs to be in this context. Sometimes it doesn’t need to be to act like a kind of social King Kong or Incredible Hulk.
A famous Christian virtue is rendered “meekness” in the bible, and that has gotten a bad rap in modern culture because it is taken as being a powerless, weak nebbish.
But that’s not what the bible means here. Think of the Clydesdale horses that pulled the Budweiser wagon, before Budweiser stopped using them. They were strong enough to pull that wagon at a breakneck pace down the street. But they didn’t. Their strength was always under control. They were being “meek” horses (in the biblical sense) without being “weak” horses. If that wagon stuck in a mud puddle, those horses would have been more than adequate to pull it right out. It is a matter of when and how the strength is used.
So the strength of patience is a virtue. This is why Donald Trump frequently uses a charm offensive first. The carrot is brought out before the stick is even seen.
To loop around... give our current lefties a graceful chance to exit from the pit they have dug for themselves. A life of digging pits may now no longer appeal to them. When we act like brute beasts (and not under control like those Clydesdale horses), we shouldn’t be surprised to see consequences that look like those of brute beasts, too.

Seems to me those who are deepest into personal loathing at lefties, also seem to be those who share the most characteristics with the lefties.
Holding a mirror up to a lefty doesn’t give us a picture of anything that is superior.
This is why I urge people: Everybody should be a redneck (they come in many colors). Redneck is everything good. They pick their own cotton (how did their necks get red, anyhow? it wasn’t by drinking mint juleps in the shade, while their lackeys cracked whips at slaves who were doing the work).
I think it’s safe to say the nasty attitudes are coming out here, and it isn’t those of the rednecks.

Redneck, I’m tired of waiting, so I’m going to clue you in on what you could have figured out had you been paying closer attention: I AM A REDNECK. I live on Big Savage Mountain in the Alleghenies of far western Maryland on an 87-acre horse farm. BUT, I do like mint juleps, and I do have a horse whip. But no slaves - yet.

So anyhow what’s all this braying about God... if you aren’t going to actually CARE about God. Ya know, you don’t get to pick your bible in any meaningful sense, unless you are of one of those nutball sects with a full custom version of it.

Ms. Redneck, my whip is never used on my horses. It’s used only to keep my redneck laborers in line, until I can purchase a few slaves to replace them. By the way, the Bible you so often refer to, is that the one that fell out of the heavens into the lap of some Pentecostal Holiness “preacher”? You know, the one that the preacher claims admonishes him to handle serpents to prove his faith? Redneck are you one of those snake-handlers yourself? C’mon now, be honest and fess up!
Maybe it ought to be used to flog you... flog a mocker and the simple will learn wisdom. That’s in there. What’s this “God” you’re braying about that used the guns and guts to do such wonderful things with, anyhow? Did “he” also come into the world in a similar manner to what you are now mocking about?
