And of course I wish all yon Freepers a very Happy New Year. Myself slept right through it.
As always, thank you AB for doing this thread so reliably and with some big work on these past two Sunday holidays. Thanking Bray for weekly wisdom and yon commenters for fleshing it all for me.
The Week Just Passed
Carrie Fisher AND Debbie Reynolds both died. Very tragic. My big memory of Debbie Reynolds is the love affair they both had with Eddie Fisher. That guy had something the women loved, eh?
The biggest news this week involves the outgoing administration and the damage it is doing to the world. First they stab Israel in the back over those silly Palestinian territories. There was never a people referred to as Palestinian and those that are called that today have done NOTHING with that area of the world they have to live in. Since 1967 this has been going on, now all of a sudden Israel can’t build buildings on its own land?
America, as a rule and I admit I’m kind of guessing, but America quite likes Israel and this whole situation is not sitting well with the populace.
The other thing this admin did to help break up and destroy the world for the incoming President Trump was to expel 35 Russian diplomats living in this country, on land they own by the way. All this because, heh, Russia supposedly hacked into our election.
All week the debates rage on over this Israel thing. As always, I wonder where the hell are the Republicans.
Why doesn’t Mitch McConnell take those marbles out of his mouth and call a meeting of some House and Senator congress people? Why don’t he and Paul Ryan form a PR effort to get the story of Israel out there, the 6 Day War, how the Arabs suddenly stopped their attack on Israel because well Arabs make lousy soldiers.
Why don’t the Republicans show the many bombs lobbed at Israel by Yassar Arafat .remember that creep Now buried in somebody’s back yard but Hillary and Madeline Albright kissed his ugly butt many times and still he walked away from any deal with Israel.
Most of all, who don’t the Republicans, in this PR campaign that they aren’t doing, go on every Sunday talk show, every political interview, send out press releases, reminding Americans that one of the Palestinian goals is to remove Israel forever and, indeed, has maps on which Israel does not exist?
I must remind of my caveat ..Obama only got away with the horror of his actions because there was no opposition party to stop him.
On A Personal Note
2017 is bound to be a better year for me as I don’t think 2016 could have been much worse.
But the story I am about to tell well first, there is a little political bent to it. But it happened recently and it’s kind of sad.
It’s my mother-in-law, mother of my deceased husband, now 87 years old. She is the grandmother of Matthew Fish, someday to be President of the U.S. and I wrote about me and granddaughter’s visit to Massachusetts. We stayed with her, Betty, and she is a very nice and gracious lady.
I can’t believe what happened to her recently but I saw signs of during that infamous visit.
Betty’s husband died about 15 years ago, my father-in-law, a wonderful man, president of the Bank of New England, a self-made man, a wonderful father. When in doubt ladies out there, and like I told my potential future first lady my granddaughter, if you can get a Fish man you’ll have the perfect husband and father.
Betty Fish has had a wonderful life for her 87 years. Well at least up to this year.
Bill Fish Sr. provided for them very well and even now Betty Fish has a whole lot of money. In addition, they raised three children, great children. Bill spoiled Betty but he loved doing so. Betty was born into a situation which made her the center of attention as the only child of two parents who met when Betty’s mother met her father when she was nanny to his children. They both had children from prior marriages with Betty their only child together.
Now Betty lives in a .what do they call it? It’s a home for seniors but it’s not a nursing home. The residents have their own apartment but the buildings are designed to be a central living system, with shops and doctors in the hub of all this.
Betty loves it and of course Bill bought it for her.
In the course of the last 15 years Betty met a guy we will call Joe.
It’s inevitable in this sort of living situation. There’s widows and widowers, many lonely or in ill health. Betty didn’t team up with Joe until about three years ago but they’d been an item for as many years.
Now let me tell you about Joe. He’s in his late 80’s and it would seem, yon ladies and gems, that Joe dumped Betty.
She told me about it during her weekly phone call last week and I wasn’t too awful surprised.
First, Joe is very, very very, very ..very, very ..liberal.
I remember well those times we were all together and how brother-in-law and the famous Matthew Fish yeah AND ME .would discuss the then upcoming election. Joe would sit at the table and mumble how very wrong we all were.
Betty is no big conservative, please understand. She voted for Obama, TWICE! But she hated Hillary-who Joe loved-and is originally from Indiana (the whole family migrated to Massachusetts from Indiana when my husband was around 16 years old) and she did like Mike Pence. She didn’t much like Trump but Hillary she really disliked.
The thing about all this is that the woman really does have a broken heart. Now she’s not sobbing or carrying on but we talked about it and I was speechless, if you can believe. Who would have thought that in heading toward the twilight of life that one would be dropped like a hot potato?
Yeah Joe has another female, living also in that same complex. Betty had to change her gym workouts to avoid Joe.
At any rate, I did the good girlfriend thing and told Betty that Joe doesn’t deserve her, that he’ll come running back soon enough .things women do when another is dumped by a man.
As for Joe, he was a nice enough person but again, he was so liberal I avoided much talk with him.
I also suppose that Betty will get over it but she really was sad, telling me how this new woman was not much to look at, how fond she’d grown of Joe ..
But she laughs, she’s not sitting alone and crying.
But I know she’s really hurt and I kind of hurt for her.
Aw, that’s a shame. I guess assisted living places have their own social world. My mom, with dementia, was in one for awhile. I always felt the ladies who still “had their faculties” looked down on her.
happy new year Pat.. yes, very sad story about MIL & the liberal idiot who dumped her...
and is always hurts to be rejected.. that is the heart and soul responding. Her mind already knows they had problems.. she was no doubt walking on egg shells MUCH TOO OFTEN...
I am working at hotel 15 hours today (fun, fun)... worked two jobs yesterday and was just too tired to drive to , attend, and drive back from party I intended to visit. so when I got home at 8, did some wine, catching up online and fell asleep early. sigh
Pat - your posts are always a great read. Keep ‘em coming.
And Happy New Year to all Freepers.
