Proud isn’t a strong enough word. And miss isn’t either.
My pop died when I was 14 and he was good to me, my uncle.
He did a video interview for a friend making a documentary on American wars, as a favor to me. A year before he died.
He told of being a machine gunner on a tank as wave after wave of Germans kept coming. He said he was shooting, killing and crying.
And they wouldn’t stop coming.
Aside from their sick intentions, my uncle said German soldiers were tough!
There’s other things he told me. He got home and everyone wanted him to take time off. He went straight to work in a factory and worked there for 50 years.
Funny story, I was leaving a family party at about 11pm and was going to AC for a few hours. It was only 2 hours away and I was in my 20s. Uncle Jimmy said “i’ll go along” lol!
Had to be in early 80s and we didn’t get home till morning :)
