Turkey moves arms to Syria border, seeks Trump's backing in war

Turkey's military deployed tanks and guns on the Syrian border as President Recep Tayyip Erdogan urged joint action with the Trump administration against Islamic State in its de facto capital, Raqqa.

The deployment, including long-range guns and armored personnel carriers, followed Erdogan's remark on Saturday that Turkish troops fighting to capture the jihadists' stronghold of al-Bab in northwest Syria could move first to the town of Manbij and then to Raqqa. The artillery reinforcements were sent to the border towns of Oguzeli and Karkamis, north of Manbij, state-run Anadolu Agency reported Sunday.

“Seeks Trump’s backing in the war”. I have never seen a President elect have such an effect before he is even in office. Regan did have some with Iran.

Erdogan wants to insure that the Kurds do not occupy any Syrian territory. This has nothing to do with ISIS.

Odd, odd, odd!! It wasn’t too long ago that Russia, Iran & Turkey meet for high level talks about security & Syria in the area. What, it failed? I would never trust a muslim with truth, period!

Turkey double-crossed us by stopping our movement into Northern Iraq in 2003.

Assad made the fatal error of allowing al Qaeda to use Syria as as a base of operations fo it's insurgency in Iraq which allowed alQaeda to establish a strong power base in Syria

When they were ousted from Iraq, al Qaeda became mercenaries bent on taking control of Syria

Turkey made the same mistake and loosed Turkey to be used as a staging ground for al Qeada’s insurgency in Syria

Now that the Insurgency is defeated, Turkey wants to kill the Jihadi to prevent them from fleeing to the only place open to them - Turkey

Yes, it s tarp

Turkey is offering to help us fight ISIS - if we stop supporting the Kurds, who have been strung along as US allies for decades

Is there enough backstabbing going on over there?

What is the status of our leased base in Turkey where we have stored some B 61s? Anyone else recall how lease base was held hostage recently by Turkey during some coup attempt? I bet that our incoming sec of state does and if not should be.

These guys are not our friends. They are in NATO by default in a cold war epic that has been over for some time and frankly became virtually useless after we stopped U-2 flights and bases for jupiter intermediate range missiles long ago IMO. They froze us out of northern Iraq. Syria/Russia have had an alliance for something like 50 yrs.
Turkey has been at “war” with the Kurds for longer. DO NOT TAKE THE BAIT. We are not responsible to come to their aid for any war in which they are the aggressor. Last I saw they were trying to leverage the Russians into an agreement too.

None of the three, Syria, Turkey or Russia is our friend so we should have no interest in involvement there.

BINGO

The Kurds have been strung along as US allies in the war on Saddam and then on Assad and then on ISIS, thinking they were going to finally get a chunk of territory they helped to liberate

Once the Russians cut off or severely damaged the ISIS oil shipments to Turkey (and their revenue) the Syrians and Iraqis actually started taking back territory - BADA BING

The Kurds are going to find out those CIA promises were written in disappearing ink

“Turkey double-crossed us by stopping our movement into Northern Iraq in 2003.”

We should insist that they be kicked out of NATO. We should not be in a position of having to defend a muzzie country against an agressor.

I have been very impressed by those retired generals.

Here's a link to a speech by General Mattis and an interview. I am thinking he will be a strong defender of our constitution and our country. Obviously a serious and competent man - gives me optimism for the future of our Republic.

Trump and Putin should get together and give Erdogan a WWI style caliphate cleansing.
