Singer George Michael has died aged 53, his publicist has said.
The star, who launched his career with Wham! in the 1980s and later continued his success as a solo performer, is said to have "passed away peacefully at home".
Thames Valley Police said South Central Ambulance Service attended a property in Goring in Oxfordshire at 13:42 GMT.
Police say there were no suspicious circumstances. Michael, who was born Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou in north London, sold more than 100m albums throughout a career spanning almost four decades.
Earlier this month it was announced that producer and songwriter Naughty Boy was working with Michael on a new album.
In a statement, the star's publicist said: "It is with great sadness that we can confirm our beloved son, brother and friend George passed away peacefully at home over the Christmas period.
"The family would ask that their privacy be respected at this difficult and emotional time. There will be no further comment at this stage."

Those hard drugs have a way of aging you.
I’m not surprised. The homosexual lifestyle includes disease, substance abuse, violence and suicide, even if it’s a long, drawn out suicide over the years. Those that practice it die at least ten years younger than normal. It’s truly a cursed lifestyle. I’m surprised he made it this far, he was out of control.
He bears little resemblance to the photo on Drudge.
WAIT, WHAT? HE WAS GAY???
What? Who?
...I should be used to the breadth of FR’s audience by now.
Can you show stats where the rates are “ridiculously high” or higher than the current hetero population?
My statement about the 80s vs now is based on my personal knowledge and experience of a finite number of gay people. As I said earlier “I know people...”
I agree with your last point... Many miserable people swear they are happy when they are not. Whether it is an ostracized gay man or lesbian , a straight couple pretending to be in love, or a Jehovah Witness knocking on doors, stuffing the watch tower down their neighbors throats. Swearing off holidays and then buying up Turkeys a day after Thanksgiving... Remember the saying misery loves company?

you have to type that in an Austin Powers accent
“WAIT, WHAT? HE WAS GAY???”
‘Fraid so. He kept it a pretty good secret. I thought I was the last to know, but it is good to see someone else was surprised too.
Maybe, except for the article to mention, "Additionally, a few women managed to achieve stardom in the 1980s hard rock scene" then not mention that Vixen was the first commercially successful all female metal band seems to leave the article quite incomplete and lacking to me.
\^^/ If its not metal, its crap. \^^/
I’m surprised he lived this long with his track record.
Me too. Politicizing Christmas. White guilt. Rich American shame. Wealthy selfishness. If you are a liberal, what’s not to love about the song. It is very self righteous.
I resent the implication that we have contempt for people in Africa and are doing nothing to help them and that their plight is somehow because of our plenty. It’s not a zero sum game.
I’m sure people like Angelina Jolie wallow in it, but when the song comes on my radio, I generally turn the sound down or change the station.
“A performer best known for getting arrested in public toilets?”
That’s what I thought when I read the news.
“And Keith Richards lives on...”
Hard to believe he’s still alive. He’s a caricature of a human being.
Concur, 100% mom oyp, lots of libs exploit guilt, etc. They are very effective at making conservatives look bad.
In this case, I think dozens of stars took a break in 1984 from making millions for themselves to make millions for the least of us. CGI and other phony charities exploit poor children, but BAND AID raised money for poor children with their God-given talent. If anything, CGI should make some Americans feel guilty, not a Christmas song.
Merry Christmas mom oyp and thanks for raising patriots.
Wow - Vixen, hadn’t thought about them in years. Female breakout in metal(even glam) is a yuge achievement - especially then.
"In what sense?"
"I have honestly never heard of the gay....er...guy."
"No, he was the 'old dirt road' variety."
All this hate and contempt just because he was not heterosexual. He gave many millions of dollars and his own time to charities and "respectable" people in need. Including over $3,000,000 to Childline (a British charity which helps abused children). He made most of his large charitable donations confidentially, clearly without any desire to benefit from positive publicity. What could be more Christian and philanthropic than that?

I was not a fan of his music or his lifestyle choices, however, I find it sickening to come across these kind of hateful prejudiced comments on a Christian Conservative discussion forum.
