Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) on Saturday night called on the United States to withhold funding to the United Nations, until such time that the global body reverses the resolution condemning Israeli presence in Judea, Samaria and eastern Jerusalem.

In a tweet, Cruz said he had spoken with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Saturday night to assure him of the strong support Israel has in Congress in the wake of President Barack Obama choosing to break with protocol and abstain during the vote at the UN Security Council, thus allowing the resolution to be approved.

“Spoke w/ Israeli PM @netanyahu tonight to wish him Happy Chanukah & assure him of strong support in Congress. No US $ for UN until reversed,” ...

I applaud Sen. Cruz for his support of Israel (our only friend in the region) however what real weight does a UN resolution have anyway? They seem to be nothing but mere demonstrations for show and nothing else.

Israel has attacked US military units and ships multiple times. I think the only reason we support Israel is because of the strategic value of having a like minded democratic nation in the ME which the US has always been interested in.

That’s a General Assembly resolution you’re thinking of. A Security Council resolution is binding on member states, at least in theory.

Or it could be that the pro-Israel lobby is the most powerful lobby in America. I can't see America getting much out of its relationship with Israel, except involvement a trainwreck-like dispute that will never end between Israel and its "enemies". That and huge losses due to industrial and military espionage.

Canadian Cruz should be more concerned about the fact his home nation have a pot-smoking Marxist as leader.

In America, we have elected a real man, something Cruz will never be.

I absolutely agree with Cruz. I suspect Trump agrees also.

He has decided that he prefers to identify with America and serve in its legislature. Can’t say as I blame him. I voted via absentee ballot for Trump, the first time since 2009 when I exited the US, that I have taken part in an American election. Glad that I did it, but it’s time to get past that. Cruz is doing the right thing, imho, but even if he weren’t, I wouldn’t presume to tell him to go back to Canada. That’s beneath anyone.

Good on Ted. But I agree, the more radical approach is better. Cut the cord. The UN doesn’t have the return on investment. Given their charter, they never will. It’s throwing money down the toilet.

As for the side discussion here about Israel, they aren’t perfect, but if you waited to have only have perfect allies, you’d end up with no friends at all, which is sheer stupidity. It’s rational to make friends where you can. It frees you up to put more focus on your enemies. Besides, having someone try to genecide you out of existence might make you a bit paranoid. I can forgive them for not trusting us blindly. I wouldn’t.

Peace,

SR

Trump is a man of action... he’s not going to sit on this... he has already stated he’s Pro-Israel... Trump is also aware if a deal is good or bad... this one is so bad and Trump is all about fixing those bad deals... Jan 20th will be a time of changing the guard ... so glad it’s with Donald Trump!

obama has shown his colors for the 8 years he’s been President. We know he does not like Christians.. and we know he shows favoritism to the muslim nations. We know the percentages of refugees he brings in, are NOT Christians.. we know he has mocked the Christian faith many times.. and we know he has radicals in his administration...if a duck acts like a duck.. it’s a duck! The media are also anti Christian, and obama can do no wrong... I’m so thankful he will be gone in less than a month!! it’s been a long time coming!

his home nation have a pot-smoking Marxist as leader.

Come now, why is that a bad thing? Don't tell me you're a fan of Reefer Madness. Trump is all for pot legalization. Soon not only will all the leaders in the USA be partakers of harmless medicinal weed, but you and every other citizen will be enjoying high times with your blunts, just as the gods of libertarianism intended.

I wonder if his buddy Glenn Beck is on board with that sentiment?

Only if it hurts Trump. If it helps Trump, he would be against it. If it would neither help or hurt Trump, he is for it only if he stains his magic underwear after watching an R movie.
