True, but not foolproof by any means. He was afforded a second chance because he had kept himself out of trouble for 8 years. He blew that second chance. Others have taken second changes given to them and turned their lives around and become positive productive citizens.
Sex crimes are one of those crimes that are handed out too liberally in my opinion.
The real sex crimes that involve forcible rape and crimes against children are warranted.
An 18 year old having sex with a 17 year old is not warranted.
So not knowing exactly what his sex crime involved it's hard to tell the seriousness of that label he is stuck with for the rest of his life.
Don’t get me started. I knew a college mate whose parents had to smuggle him at least out of the state if not farther in the dead of night from a manhunt.
Why? He mooned someone and their kid was in the backseat, so it qualified as ‘indecency with a minor’ or some such baloney. Even being CHARGED with that kind of offense means good-bye job and scholarship at the bare minimum the minute people find out. And convicted? You’re hosed.
Took my respect for the legal system down a few notches.
