I know he was a jihadist, and deserved death for various misdeeds, but don’t 100% believe it was him who drove the truck in Berlin. Still kinda’ think his info was planted under the seat of that truck, and could be the real bad guy got away. But, dead men tell no tales.
The devil is in the details, if we ever learn what the truth really is. However, I have no qualms believing this was not a Lone Wolf attack, and it won’t stop here...
I was in Italy for six weeks this past summer. I asked one of my hosts why Italy has not had the sort of terrorist attacks that the Germans and French seem to suffer. My host said, “believe it or not” the Italian security apparatus is much more sophisticated than their neighbors to the north. More importantly, the Italians are much less politically correct.
That is, if you look like a possible terrorist, you will be stopped. More importantly, if you don’t look suspicious, they will not go through the politically correct motions, and resource wasting exercise of checking your documents and asking questions. In short, they use common sense.
As an American, and pretty American looking at that, I was never stopped, or hassled going through Airport security (multiple times) or tourist security check points (ie. the Vatican.) They had the common sense to see I was not a threat, just by looking at me, and were happy to wave me through.
I would say they even went out of their way to not delay my travels. In the US, the DHS agents randomly pull old ladies and people like myself to check bags for explosives, or empty shampoo bottles, even though we are clearly not Muslim. In Italy, the Airport Security Agents didn’t waste their time or my time and would probably be reprimanded for annoying an American like me and creating a bunch of unnecessary paper work.
