Looking for a new cargo van for my business
starting at $33,000, what? Empty box on wheels!
Plus the engines suck too, 4 Cylinder diesel or a 3.2 liter V6 gas? Really? My old van has a 4.3 v6 and I would not consider it oversized by any standard
And these vans are bigger but the payloads are so small, I don’t understand why they don’t put normal sized engines in these. I don’t want to waste 33K on an underpowered box on wheels that I can’t do crap with.
I'm a big spender. 11.5 years is the average age for me.
And Hyundai USA just sacked their top guy because he wasn’t able to move cars in the US.
Looks like we are pretty deep into a recession at this point.
It wouldn’t surprise me to see Chrysler and Dodge join Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Mercury, Plymouth, etc., in automotive heaven within the next couple of years. Chrysler is down to two models - the 300, and the Pacifica minivan (the 200 was discontinued earlier this month.) Dodge is also desperately in need of new products. They’ve discontinued the Caravan and the Dart. Their remaining models are long overdue for a complete redesign. You can’t keep getting by with a “refersh” forever. I’m thinking Fiat will keep Ram and Jeep (or maybe sell them off to another automaker) and kill off Chrysler and Dodge.
Losing 10 - 15 K soon as you leave he show room makes absolutely no sense.
I hate to think what those would be on that overpriced piece of Mopar.
He has been bankrupt once, it will happen again.
I know a of a guy that can top that.
This was in the mid-90s. The fellow in question is a trust fund baby that didn’t have much life experience for being over 50.
The information comes from several reliable sources and knowing the guy, I can believe it.
Anyway he bought a new car and paid cash for it. I don’t know what kind but a nice one.
He flipped out on the property taxes and took it back to the same lot. Then he bought a cheaper new car (in cash) and had the same experience. Anyway he bought down (two or three in cash) to a used little beat up Celebrity that the taxes were acceptable.
You see that at many of the Japanese auto plants here in the USA, too. Go look at the Honda assembly operations here in North America.
When a family of four is paying 2000/month for health insurance it kind of cuts into the budget. These WERE their customers.
With all due respect, you seriously don't understand the reason for the problem you just described? This is totally the result of the CAFE standards liberals and the Obama government mandated.
According to Wiki, "On July 29, 2011, President Obama announced an agreement with thirteen large automakers to increase fuel economy to 54.5 miles per gallon for cars and light-duty trucks by model year 2025. He was joined by Ford, GM, Chrysler, BMW, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar/Land Rover, Kia, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Toyota, and Volvowhich together account for over 90% of all vehicles sold in the United Statesas well as the United Auto Workers (UAW), and the State of California, who were all participants in the deal. The agreement will result in new CAFE regulations for model year 2017-2025 vehicles which were finalized on August 28, 2012."
The CAFE standard is an average applied to the fleet of models manufacturers produce. It is the very reason for the issue you described. And it is the reason you can no longer get a 8 cylinder engine anymore in some vehicles as it's all about spreading out the MPGs across the production fleet.
Still driving our 2005 Subaru Forester
——He put $ 30,000 down. (his credit sux). Jeez, 30,000 would buy you a nice vehicle.——
Wait’ a guy with 30K cash for a down payment on a vehicle has bad credit?
LOL...
I guess doing wildly stupid things like paying 50K for truck would make sense to him...
yeah. I shake my head as I drive a 14 year old vehicle
20,000 for a cheap car that rattles down the road and get blown around by every other vehicle passing it by.
I’m still driving a 2000 Chevy Lumina. 235,000 miles, on the verge of rusting apart, but God has held her together and I pray he continues to do so until I can afford to buy a newer car.
#8 If the transmission gets stuck in 1 gear all you need to do to fix it is pull out the fuse for the radio. Located under the hood on passenger side. It also powers the computer for the transmission. I had to do it twice while I owned a 1992 Honda Accord LX.
I now have moved on up to the 2003 Honda Accord 4cyl.
If you have the 6cyl then you may need to replace the transmission. Honda had a recall on the problem.
People who cannibalized POWs make good cars.
18 year average age vehicles here. 1999 K15000 Suburban
and wife’s 1997 Oldsmobile 88. Just drove the Suburban to our winter hideout in Florida with no problems.
