Newt Gingrich says Trump is done with ‘drain the swamp’
The Gazette ^ | 12/21/16 | Aaronn Blake

There were two notable Trumpworld headlines Wednesday morning. One was the news that Corey Lewandowski — Donald Trump's former campaign manager who remained part of his inner circle long after leaving that job — had just opened a “full service government relations and consulting firm” half a block from the White House.

The other was that the president-elect is apparently over “drain the swamp.”

Thanks for setting the record straight.

One of the things the MSM is trying to do is sow discord among Trump supporters, hoping they will turn against him. And they happily lie to try to achieve that. We need to be careful and check, as you just did and informed the rest of us.

Your right I think it will be very effective to not talk about it anymore and just do it.

The headline is deceptive. Newt didn’t say Trump is thru with ‘drain the swamp,’ he said he heard that Trump is thru with ‘drain the swamp.’ Sick of these fake headlines.

“It has remained part of Trump’s post-election “thank you” tour. Whether in Ohio or Florida, the crowd continued to shout along with the president-elect as he vowed to curtail corruption in Washington — even as he revealed that he wasn’t always crazy about the catchphrase.

“I tell everyone, I hated it,” Trump said at a rally this month in Des Moines, Iowa. “Somebody said ’drain the swamp’ and I said, ’Oh, that is so hokey. That is so terrible.”’

Trump went on to say he kept repeating the phrase when he realized how popular it was.”

I recall during the campaign at his rallies Trump would say (at least at some of them) that his aids suggested he call his plans to end the corruption in DC "draining the swamp" but he thought it was cheesy. paraphrasing: "But I did say it and the crowd went crazy, you all love it so I'll keep on saying it!"

Basically he admitted he didn't personally like the expression. He liked the sentiment, not the expression. Personally I wouldn't be surprised if he went forward with all his "swamp draining" plans but never called it that again.

Gingrich said that Trump will no longer be using the term. Gingrich did NOT say that Trump was going to abandon draining the swamp.

Already out there and not of concern for any concern trolls out there - he wants to drain the swamp and even see Hillary prosecuted - it no longer needs to be part of his vernacular because he is putting together some very capable teams to accomplish the mission.

Funny. “Drain the swamp” is no cheesier than “MAGA.” Both have visceral appeal well beyond their intellectual capacity.

I’m sure you do but in Newt’s case this sort of thing has become somewhat of a habit (ie. the wall). But thanks for your concern.

“Can’t make sense of it? Suspected you weren’t real bright.”

Sounds like you are the snarky one. All Newt did was repeat a message he had received for someone close to the campaign. All the message said was that Trump was going to drop the term “draining the swamp”. Obviously what Newt was told was wrong.

Perhaps, but the bottom line is as I stated, he made a stupid remark that was better left unsaid.
