Donald Trump might have been a conservative hiding in plain sight this whole time.
The President-elect, who ran on populism rather than ideology and was once viewed as a political apostate by many conservatives, might represent the movement's most significant governing moment since Ronald Reagan.
Trump is assembling a conservative dream team of domestic Cabinet appointments that promises to move swiftly to dismantle the Obama administration's legacy in health care, education, labor and environmental policy. They will be aided by a Republican-controlled House and Senate that will coordinate on legislation.
"I think most conservatives are pretty pleasantly surprised," said Matt Lewis, a CNN commentator and author of "Too Dumb to Fail: How the GOP Betrayed the Reagan Revolution to Win Elections (and How It Can Reclaim its Conservative Roots)."

We just need to be sure to support him despite the liberal media attacks on him.
More correctly, he’s close to actual conservatism and far away from Bush/McAmnesty/Graham ‘conservatism’.
NY Values :)
so is Ivanka but some people assume she must be a leftist because she’s able to give algore the time of day. But that is for another thread :)
More conservative than Reagan.
He beat the combined force of the Democrats and the MSM, who worked together and didn’t try to hide it.
He will have to continue to fight them, and beat them, every day, at least for a while.
If there is a mass casualty terrorist attack on us, it will be blamed on him, and on we Americans who voted for him. Blame will be fixed immediately, before any investigation gets underway.
The only thing that will slow down the Democrat/MSM interference will be if things get better for the majority of Americans, as they did under Ronald Reagan.
It is well to remember that the American economy didn’t start to really rev up until 1982 and 1983. There were early signs in 1981, but those are only visible now in hindsight. they weren’t obvious at the time.
Not entirely sure of that yet. I think the jury is still out on that.
Let’s see how he governs for a few years, my friend. Certainly off to a solid start.
Reagan had complete opposite views on borders/immigration.
I do have to give Reagan the benefit of the doubt. It is hard to tell Gorbachev to tear down the Berlin wall and support our own wall at the same time
I’ve always thought Trump was the most Conservative candidate in the GOP primary. More than Cruz
Go look at what he did with FOPA, though. He signed it even with the poison pill tacked on at the last minute. There’s other things I’m still not all that happy with Reagan about - like the Mulford Act that banned open carry in California.
Lets not go too far with the conservative bit. His National defense picks 100% awesome! His finance picks are yet to be desired. When you have Gates and Rice praising his economic picks and State tied to Goldman x2 with one close ties to Soros no far from conservative
Media hated Trump and promoted Jeb then Rubio then Cruz to stop Trump because they all thought Trump was the most Conservative
Are we living on the same planet? His SOS and economic picks are establishment through and through. I’ll sing his praises when he gets it right and for defense he nailed it. But would a conservative pick someone with ties to Soros? You truly believe Reagan would have picked anyone with any tie to Soros?
Actually, the media focused on Trump because they thought he would damage the Republican brand.
Hoist on their own petard.
With all respect, there was a huge difference between Reagan’s call to Gorbachev and Trump’s call for a wall. Gorbachev was keeping the East German population IN, Trump wants to keep the flood of illegals from Central America OUT.
The only thing that will slow down the Democrat/MSM interference will be...........
If they happen to be recipient of the mass terror attack

I don’t want to go with what he had to compromise with a Dem Congress. Trump didn’t even get in yet. But Reagan did argue in favor of open borders several times.
What? Reagan picked HW Bush for his VP! That hurt conservatives for 12 years (4 + W Bush’s 8)
