California is seeing a big surge in gun sales as the Golden State gets ready to enact sweeping gun control measures.
Some Californians are rushing to get their hands on the AR-15, which is America's most popular rifle and a longtime target of gun control proponents.
Gun sales, including handguns, are up 40 percent this year in California, while sales of semi-automatic rifles have doubled.
The new laws, set to take effect January 1, will ban so-called "assault-style rifles" with easily-detachable magazines.
...
today is the last day to make a purchase, since the state has a 10-day waiting period on all purchases.
If the buyer fails to take possession of a soon-to-be-banned firearm by Dec. 31, they won't be allowed to take it home
...
The new laws also require owners to register their semi-automatic rifles with the state. Magazines holding more than 10 rounds will also be illegal and anyone who has one already must turn it over to police.
However, many gun owners have declared they will not comply.
Supporters of the gun control actions say this will "limit bloodshed" in local communities. Critics argue that the legislation limits the ability of law-abiding people to defend themselves against armed criminals.

Idiotic law.
Home of the brave, land of the free my ass. That joint is like Nazi Germany.
Most will simply do featureless builds and not register jack. Few are going to turn in magazines that is certain.
Idiotic law.
Here's one:
"A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."
Yup. One and only one.
Although you could make the argument that it COULD have been worded better:
The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. Period.
Just like the one in Connecticut
California isn’t completely useless. We can look there for a lesson in how NOT to do things.
We do, problem is, it goes to the Ninth Circuit. Who, just last week declared that a ten day waiting period to take possession of a gun, when you own other guns, is not an unreasonable inconvenience.
I like our state’s wording: ‘That the people have a right to bear arms for the defence of themselves and the State.’ Those folks who wrote that in 1777 surely knew more than most of our citizens today.
can anyone confirm this?
we heard that there are very excellent lawyers lined up to get this BS law overturned in court.... hopefully anyway....
just as soon as a few of their clients are denied their rights to purchase said firearms (that being, apparently, tomorrow per the article....I thought it wasn’t until 1 January but not much difference that)
they want their clients to have constitutional “standing” as “actually injured plaintiffs”....so that the courts can’t toss the cases out as being “speculative” or “no actual harm”
does anyone KNOW that this is defininely going to proceed?
all I can see is that Californication is patently, blantantly and unconstitutionally depriving its citizens of their rights.... but it will take some good lawyers to remedy this tyranny (any posting i might do online is not going to restore anyone’s rights, alas)
Won't happen through the courts. CT and NY have both tried to reduce the damage done to gun ownwers and the courts have turned them down. SCOTUS refused to hear the challenge. The only way to change it will be through the legislature. Good luck!
the Californication Legislature is now over 2/3 Democrappic
and pretty far leftwing, socialistically Democrappic, too
there is no foreseeable relief in sight for American citizens’ constitutional rights, in the CA legislature, sorry
This will definitely put an end to gun violence in CA. All our problems are solved. We can close jails!
Now shouldn't tax paying gun owners demand public funds to provide attorneys for them accused of breaking some stupid liberal gun laws?
“If the buyer fails to take possession of a soon-to-be-banned firearm by Dec. 31, they won’t be allowed to take it home”
Was just in a couple of guns stores in Norcal this past week. They have already reacted with ample supplies of AR-15’s that are devoid of the “evil features” which set them apart from other semi-automatic rifles. The pistol grips and collapsable stocks have been replaced along with the “flash hiders” being changed out for “muzzle brakes.”
So now they are “featureless.” And, since they are now “featureless,” they don’t have to have the “bullet button” magazine releases any longer.
The CA Legislature will never stop the sale of these guns, and I just imagine that President Trump and our new SCOTUS will defang them in the coming months. Having to “honor” other state’s CCW permits will break California’s back on their own CCW permits, because there are states now that will issue their CCW permits to non-residents and CA will be forced to honor them ultimately.
CA better be prepared for a civil rights lawsuit protecting the 2nd Amendment. The days of far-left thugs pretending the 2nd Amendment either doesn’t exist or doesn’t mean exactly what it says are over.
There needs to be a federal law that allows citizens to sue state and local governments that violate their 2nd Amendment rights.
