Ten years after Saddam execution, CIA officer says that everything the US thought it knew was WRONG
UK Daily Mail ^ | 12/17/2016 | John Nixon

[full title]:The Saddam interrogation: Ten years after the tyrant's execution, the CIA agent who grilled him reveals the shattering truth... that everything the US thought it knew was WRONG

CIA analyst John Nixon grilled the ruthless dictator of Iraq, Saddam Hussein

In the course of interrogations, Saddam 'turned our assumptions upside down'

In his 2010 memoir, Bush wrote: ‘I decided I would not criticise the hardworking patriots of the CIA for the faulty intelligence on Iraq.’ But that is exactly what he did. He blamed the agency for everything that went wrong and called its analysis ‘guesswork’ while hearing only what he wanted to hear.

I do not wish to imply that Saddam was innocent. He was a ruthless dictator who plunged his region into chaos and bloodshed. But in hindsight, the thought of having an ageing and disengaged Saddam in power seems almost comforting in comparison with the wasted effort of our brave men and women in uniform and the rise of Islamic State, not to mention the £2.5 trillion spent to build a new Iraq.

I question everything from the CIA and everything surrounding New World Order GHW Bush.

As a nation, we were pretty close to Iraq at one time. I believe we could have encouraged Iraq not to go into Kuwait when they did. We knew they were lining up to go in but did nothing to stop them.

I also question all the claims that Iraq tried to assassinate GHW Bush after the war. Maybe they did but I am not buying it just because our intelligence community said so.

I blame Bill Clinton for a lot of the mess too. He didn’t handle Iraq well as president either.

Too many questions and not enough answers.

"Those were not "mistakes." They were deliberate acts of deception to support a propaganda campaign aimed at conning the American people. "

Right you are. Remember all the 'evidence' that the mushroom cloud was coming when all those who actually looked said no. we are still paying for the fast ones that Cheney blew by Bush.

I maintain that ANY president (including Trump) in the aftermath of 9/11 who did not act would have been irresponsible.

Maybe we could have blamed Canada and bombed Prince Edward Island. Better than doing nothing, as you say.

New World Order GHW Bush

I'm not a big fan of GHWB, but to be fair his New World Order comment was made in the context of the recent collapse of the Soviet Union and the earlier tearing down of the Berlin Wall.

There was a New World Order in process no matter who the POTUS was and nobody knew exactly how it would shake out, including you and me and GHWB.

Exactly right.

I’m perplexed by the message that we know the CIA was wrong then, because someone in today’s CIA (never wrong) says so.

Clinton and Bush both declared war on Hussein. Clinton sent money and failed. Bush sent troops and won. The three reasons provided in law were:
support for terrorism
failure to abide by cease fire agreements
pursuit of WMDs

These reasons were valid under Clinton, and with the passage of time, were even more valid under Bush.

Basically, you are right.

But I think Hussein’s case was somewhat different. As two examples, he conquered an oil-rich neighbor and he supported international terrorism.

Ghadafi was also a US problem for a time. Then Reagan bombed one of his palaces and he mellowed out.

It was just too big a risk. Again, with every single intel agency in the WORLD saying the same thing, a WMD attack on America would have led to the Pres and his party being hated and despised and blamed for 100 years.

Bush isn’t/wasn’t a doofus.
He used 9/11 as an excuse to go after the guy who tried to kill Bush’s daddy. He knew exactly what he was doing.

President G.H.W. Bush gave the nod for Hussein to invade Kuwait?

Do you have any links to any evidence to support that?

As you say:

“ISIS came to be because, in large part, Obama turned his back on the elected government of Iraq.”

The “it’s all Bush’s fault” brigade fails to notice that our President for the last eight years was Hussein. Hussein Obama screwed up big time.

You can use a search engine for US Ambassador April Glaspie telling Saddam Hussein, “We have no opinion on your Arab – Arab conflicts...”

It’s true that the 9/11 terrorist came from Saudi Arabia.

We should also remember the 1996 bombing of the world trade center. One more stick of dynamite and one building would have toppled into the other with no time for evacuation.

One of the 1996 bombers was also a member of the Iraqi intelligence service.

I would like to know who received hijack training and practice drills at Salman Pak Iraq.

“THE CIA DIRECTOR VOTED FOR the communist party USA”

Yes, by his own admission, but only because he didn’t think he could fool the polygraph machine.

Then just read the words of Valerie Plame and her husband Joe Wilson and you can see for yourself that in-house flaming leftists are tolerated and supported by the CIA.

When it comes to the 9/11 bombings, anyone who claims credit should be given credit and treated appropriately.

I remember that event. The interpretation at the time was that she was either totally inept or intimidated.

I think it would take more than one event to green light the invasion of another country, and perhaps another - Saudi Arabia. That level of political control of oil would be very dangerous.

GOD knows how much money we spend on this gang that can’t shoot straight each year.
The one that didn’t foresee the fall of the Soviet Union?
The one that said Sadman had weapons of mass all over the place?

People forget about 9/11. They ignore it. The US reaction was very light. We have allies that wish to destroy everything associated with the US or the constitution. We have and are spending billions helping Muslims fight Muslims. Islam is not compatible with any western society, unfortunately the constitution requires Islam to exist within the US.
