I miss him already. Say what you like, President Barack Hussein Obama is supremely intelligent, witty, humane, reasonable, elegant, a great writer, a model father, a good husband, a decent human being. He has empathy and humor. He is sane and calm. He gave us eight years free of scandal and drama: no interns, no corruption, no jobs handed out to outrageously unqualified people (a hallmark of the George W. Bush yearsremember "Heckuva job, Brownie"?). Although it's unfashionable these days to care about dignity and decorumwe're all vulgarians now, living inside a perpetual reality-TV show - Obama brought seriousness and purpose to an office that had been a kingdom of dimwittery and darkness for eight years. He acted as if knowing what youre talking about actually mattered. And he did all this as a black man in white America, which went crazy whenever it remembered he was black - for example, when he spoke up mildly in support of a world-famous Harvard professor who was challenged for being in his own home by a local cop. Obama persisted, with grace, in the teeth of a Senate that treated him as so illegitimate that it even refused to hold hearings for his last Supreme Court nominee. To tell you the truth, I don't know how he could stand it.
Now that President Obama is preparing to step down, Im wondering why we on the left - myself included - found it so easy to attack him for his failures and mistakes and so hard to give the man some basic credit.

Actually, I also see Obama as in the photo at the left (”Obama as he sees himself”). I see him as a guy who talks tough and imagines himself as royalty, but who appears as an utterly silly grand poohbah.

You've named three Obama gaffes, and the MSM said he was a genius. Bush was considered Dumbo because he pronounced "nuclear" as "nucular."

no corruption, no jobs handed out to outrageously unqualified people Paying MiL $160,000/yr. under the guise of 'live in nanny'. Think that's for life on top of that.
We've paid out $85 mil. for vacations, and we haven't added the Christmas (Winter Holiday) vacation the family is embarking on today. Likely another$3 mil +.

Dystopian myopia as only leftist true believers can manage. They see nothing. They imagine everything.
Obama is by any measurable standard the most corrupt, clandestine, ignorant, ideological, secretive, anti American president in our nation’s history.
Obama’s single saving grace is his 50% African ancestry. Even that is northern African Muslim slave trader heritage. He is not black. He is not white. He is nothing of any consequence.

"Yes he looks well in his Brooks Brothers suits and keeps a slim profile."
Bush II was a little heavier, but very fit, and could throw a baseball properly, speak Spanish, and fly a military jet. He also paints, and is an avid reader of history.
Trump excelled at three sports, and was a borderline major league baseball prospect, but I never knew about it until two weeks ago.
Ann Romney participated in the sport of equestrian, which was derided as an out-of-touch pastime of the wealthy. If a Democrat participated in equestrian, it would be hailed as a return to Camelet.
The media never bring up these facts, but when Obama came along, you were given the impression he was NBA material, not just a member of an ordinary high-school basketball team.
The skills of these Republicans were ignored, while Obama - who speaks only English despite living abroad in his youth - was portrayed as a Renaissance Man and a genius.

The author. Ah.
Yes...
I don't think anyone who placed Hillary as Secretary of State can be lauded for avoiding incompetents. The surviving citizens of Libya, Egypt, Yemen, and Syria might like a word with the author.

You read further than me. I stopped at supremely intelligent and fell off my chair laughing. Then you missed the Bush-bashing as well.

This is Chris Hayes-grade twaddle. He was a The Nation goon before he co-hosted Rachael Madcow’s show.
The Nation used to be worth reading, back about 1869.
Why, on cold evenings Louisa May Alcott and I used to snuggle with a pot of mulled wine and a copy of The Nation and giggle like little girls.

Just an aside, the word “empathy” is not found anywhere in the United States Constitution.
