Hostility to free speech has become a salient characteristic of American college campuses. Speech codes that make it dangerous for students (or anyone else) to say things that might be regarded as offensive or “harassing” are all too common -- even though the codes have been found to violate the First Amendment when challenged in court.
Another means of limiting free speech that college officials have used is the “free speech zone” tactic. That allows them to claim that they aren’t against students exercising their First Amendment rights, but are merely imposing a “reasonable” regulation on them. Policies limiting free speech only to small zones on campus are distressingly common. The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) has concluded that roughly one in six colleges and universities have them.
Do officials at our colleges and universities really believe that students must be penned into a tiny zone where free speech is authorized – or is it that they only want certain kinds of free speech to be restricted? A new case raises that question.
Officials at Grand Valley State University (GVSU) in Michigan have imposed a speech zone policy. Under university rules, students have full expressive rights, but only inside two very small areas on campus amounting to about .02 percent of its total area. Moreover, students must first obtain permission from officials before they engage in any speech or expressive activity within the zone.

Years ago I read an article, “Censorship by the Free Speech Generation” which examined the whole subject of speech codes by the aging hippies that seized control of the
“oppressive” colleges, just to become the new oppressors.

Hmmm... “Free Speech Zones”? I thought all of the United States of America was a free speech zone...
I’m thinkin’ that if I were the Secretary of the Department of Education and/or any other agency directly involved in funneling federal funds to ANY university, and that university did not understand and uphold the obvious meaning and intent of the First Amendment to the Constitution, they wouldn’t get any federal money at all...

Union Square in San Francisco had a free speech area many years ago. Free, that is if you were a radical. Street corner preachers were the only ones to challenge the orthodoxy.
The totalitarian Left in America is being unmasked, and it must be accurately described for what it is: a force for tyrannical control over the minds and hearts of those who fall under its spell.

Our “culture” is very sick and on it’s last legs.
Freedom of Speech is essential for human beings....otherwise, we are just controlled, programmed sheeple (like the pschopatic, sodomite elites want—compliant irrational sheeple/snowflekes).
When you control Language/Words, you can control the concepts/beliefs in all the little snowflakes. Our skools (elementary) are intentionally destroying the minds of our children so they are incapable of dealing with concepts which disagree with their programming (Called Cognitive Dissonance).
C.D. is embedded into our children by Common Core—intentionally-—to create irrational, emotionally crippled sheeple who need the State 24/7. It is psychological warfare on their little brains.
Home school and get them OFF of screens which just control their emotions in artificial ways to remove them from Reality and make Reality boring......they will be incapable of profound human interactions since they have no practice and habits of interaction with real human beings.
Georgia Tech - a top flight engineering school which trades in hard facts and numbers - has paid big bucks in losing defenses of its “free speech” zones. Conservatives must continue to hammer these arrogant bastards until irate taxpayers and their legislators step in to restore sanity. When you’ve got ‘em by the balls (or wallet), their hearts and minds will follow.
Then it isn't free at all even there, is it?
Students used to riot over this stuff. Now they're in their safe spaces molding Play-Doh and petting puppies. You have to wonder sometimes if there's anything left worth saving.
