Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Uber CEO Travis Kalanick were named Wednesday to President-elect Donald Trump's newly formed economic advisory board.
The announcement was made separately from a meeting of tech leaders with Trump that Musk was attending. Kalanick is out of the country.
They join IBM CEO Ginni Rometty as the only tech representatives so far named to Trump's Strategic and Policy Forum.
The group will reportedly "be called upon to meet with the president frequently to share their specific experience and knowledge as the president implements his plan to bring back jobs and Make America Great Again."

Both Musk and Kalanick were critical of Trump during the campaign.
Musk said at one point, "I think a bit strongly that [he] is probably not the right guy" to be president. Kalanick at one pont joked about moving to China if Trump was elected.
But they and other tech leaders have been less critical of Trump as he prepares to take office, apparently initially hoping to help shape his policies through persuasion rather than confrontation.
Along with Musk and Rometty, others meeting with Trump on Wednesday are Apple CEO Tim Cook, Larry Page and Eric E. Schmidt of Google parent company Alphabet, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg, Oracle co-CEO Safra A. Catz, Intel CEO Brian M. Krzanich and Cisco CEO Chuck Robbins. ***

People that are appointed are appointees LOL!
I assume you’re just making the point that they serve at his pleasure. OK.
Then you must love Obama. “Created” millions of jobs that would not otherwise exist without fed subsidies and your tax $$. Elon does the same thing but of course he is a “visionary” who uses tax $$ to fund his pet projects.
Now Uber is different, we all love riding in Uber and hate taxis. But these are not great jobs - I bet nobody here is jonesing to be an uber driver. Out here these guys are mostly the immigrants that you guys want to eject. So yes, Uber has a good product but don’t tell me about how Uber is going to rescue all my undermployed brothers in Ohio and Michigan.
It’s well to remember a good part of this is undoubtedly in the interest of liberal heads exploding from coast to coast.
It'll do your heart good.
While all of that naysaying has some truth, unlike you, Musk is a visionary.
...
I think a stronger characteristic is he’s a guy who gets things done. He shares that in common with Trump.
Otherwise I see no good from appointing him, hes a socialist creation.
...
He’s a guy that people on FR like to criticize while knowing very little about him and his accomplishments.
Freepers like to climb on a band wagon even when they don’t know where it’s going
I do not know the reason Trump wants these folks but he is no ones fool. He may be able to use them to get some Dems to sign on to certain legislation he wants.
As I look at these names I remember where we have been. Obamas’ first team, “Chief Economic Advisor” was Franklin Delano Raines, who pulled off the largest embezzlement of taxpayer funds in US history and Green Jobs Czar Van Jones.
I despise Musk and his mega-rich pals but it still feels like a win.
