Daily Beast reporter Liza Foreman tells readers in her lede that she was "not all that familiar" with Chappaquiddick, the remote island where Kennedy drove off a bridge late at night with a young woman who drowned in the car while Kennedy escaped.
Kennedy failed to report the accident until the next morning and was later given a suspended sentence for leaving the scene of a fatal accident. The death of 28-year-old Mary Jo Kopechne, a campaign worker to Kennedy's late brother Robert, shadowed Ted Kennedy for the rest of his life and arguably kept him from ever winning the presidency.
Albeit without leaving someone to perish in his car while he sobered up, but I digress. Back to Clarke on the accident itself --
"It was a critical night," he added. "It was a really long night for Ted and a long day. I mean we start off from Washington, then Martha's Vineyard for the boat race. There is the beach, then the boat race, then the whole party, and then the accident, and then the whole night to the next morning. So it was a long night for Ted. Ted had a rough night."

I believe Mad Magazine........
If I remember correctly, Teddy was hated by nature itself. He survived car wrecks, airplane crashes and once while driving down the road a tree fell on his car and tried to take him out.
Horrible. Her parents should have allowed an autopsy.
If the former, than kudos to Madison Avenue for being able to connect reality with product safety.
I'm pretty sure the "real" VW ad came first and the Lampoon guys simply changed the text.
BTW, I think that ad may have been the only time in the magazine's history that it printed an apology/retraction. It didn't come off as very contrite, though - basically the follow-up stated that "Even if Teddy had been driving a Volkswagen, he still wouldn't have been president", or words to that effect.
ted kennedy got a free pass because he was a rich and powerful person. Anyone else would have been thrown in jail. The wretch is now worm food.
Well, at least times have changed and people with power, money and privilege no longer get special................ Oh. Never mind.
“Actor’s Take on Kennedy at Chappaquiddick - ‘Ted Had a Rough Night’ “
Sh!t! But not as bad as the woman he let drown.
The bridge was gone and there was a ferry in use. I commented that it was the liberal way to deny the truth - destroy any evidence even if it meant making things more inconvenient for all and costing people extra money and delays to go about their daily business.
You won't have to have much of an imagination to picture some of the looks I got from others (probably a mix of vacationers and locals).
I considered it a winning moment.....
Back when I first started listening to Rush, he cracked a joke that I've never forgotten. He said that Ted Kennedy should pick Billy Carter as his running mate so they could use the campaign slogan: "You drink, I'll drive."
Kennedy failed to report the accident until the next morning and was later given a suspended sentence for leaving the scene of a fatal accident.

Aw, give poor drunk Ted a break, he lost his driver’s license for a year too.
You all might be right!
OMG, that nearly made me spit!
Not as rough as MaryJo.
How long has this guy been dead? They are still writing articles trying to cover-up and exonerate him?
Yeah. This is the core of liberalism. Lies repeated so often they muddy the water.
There is full certainty that Kennedy was driving the car, but the cowardly POS, standing with the two guys who he got to go back with him asked if they could pin it on her, have her driving.
How I despise that miserable, corrupt excuse for a human being.
Ted Kennedy, the murderer...if he went to prison for it, the Clinton’s wouldn’t have gotten away with Arkancide...
Look at what they did with Joseph McCarthy back in the Fifties, and what they are doing today with Trump.
Their tactics don’t change.
The best ad never made....(Great fake ad). National Lampoon wrote the ad.
It was longer for poor Mary Jo
I remember one reporter talking about it being another part of the family ‘tragedy’... as if Teddy was a victim and NOT the murderer. It was sick - AND worse there was no 'Drudge Report' to counter the lies and BS.
Kennedys....
Can’t Drive
Can’t Fly
Can’t Ski
Can’t Skipper a Boat
.......but they know what’s best for us.
