The fact that the warehouse was not on the fire inspection system is puzzling because the city Fire Prevention Bureau is required to conduct annual inspections of all commercial buildings and multifamily residences, according to city ordinance.
Some former residents described the warehouse as a cluttered death trap lacking fire sprinklers and filled with debris and exposed wires. Some said they made complaints to the city. People rented space in the building even though it was zoned only for warehouse use. The death toll from the fire was so high because the warehouse was hosting an unpermitted concert that night.
Experts said Oakland has a variety of questions to answer about how it handled the warehouse.

A lot of the inspectors knew where to get their free dope, sex and other goodies. Nothing new here...it’s typical for all city code inspection units.
I opened a shop in Corpus Christi, Texas and an inspector failed me for an electrical box that I used to test welding machines. I was lucky, I knew an individual that worked for an industrial electrical company and he was a mutual friend. He arranged to meet me, the inspector and himself at my place of business to “fix” the problem. When he arrived he gave the “inspector” a 500’ roll of heavy nylon rope and the inspector never came back into the building to inspect...instead...gave me the OK.
This is a single factual example but the practice is RAMPANT with ALL public safety inspection units across the country.
Due to prevailing winds that would endanger nearby "good" states with fallout.
