Why the Ghost Ship 'slipped through the cracks' of Oakland inspectors despite repeated safety...

The fact that the warehouse was not on the fire inspection system is puzzling because the city Fire Prevention Bureau is required to conduct annual inspections of all commercial buildings and multifamily residences, according to city ordinance.

Some former residents described the warehouse as a cluttered “death trap” lacking fire sprinklers and filled with debris and exposed wires. Some said they made complaints to the city. People rented space in the building even though it was zoned only for warehouse use. The death toll from the fire was so high because the warehouse was hosting an unpermitted concert that night.

Experts said Oakland has a variety of questions to answer about how it handled the warehouse.

It is not difficult to imagine that the promoter shares at least some responsibility

The left that controls Oakland is at fault.

Graft, corruption, payoffs...

“not on the fire inspection system”

Hack or bribe your way out of the database.

Because it was a bunch of feel good hippy artists types. Wealthy city people love this type of crowd. They move in like rats, fix up a building, turn the neighborhood in to a hip artsy fartsy hangout, then move on when the land owners kick them out for better paying tenants. SO, if the city has to ‘overlook’ the property so be it. For a perfect example look at the Portland Pearl District.

I’ve been following the story. The city department that hasn’t inspected the warehouse for thirty years would only inspect if there was new work via the building permit process. No one got a permit in all of those years. Fire inspections are the responsibility of the fire depart through its inspection dept. Reportedly the fire chief had not appointed someone according to the fire fighters union.

Two different inspections from two city departments.

The Oakland fire chief is an affirmative action sextuplet winner:

Minority.
Female.
Unqualified.
Incompetent.
Corrupt.
Democrat.

Oh please. A lot of good young people in their 20s perished in that fire. There are grieving mothers, fathers and siblings all over the Bay Area.

A sane person wouldn’t wish what you said on anybody.

Stop giving FR a bad reputation and grow up.

A friend who worked bringing places like that up to code said there’s far worse. I found that amazing after seeing the GS interior shots from before.

“I know they’re understaffed; I know they’re underbudgeted,” Lopez said.

Nonsense, Ms. Lopez. Government agencies are hotbeds of featherbedding, so to speak, and are budgeted out the wazoo. They just don't do their jobs, because they don't have to. No matter what disasters, failures, and tragedies occur, nobody is prosecuted, nobody is fired.

In New York, there is a black firefighter named TRAGIC JOHNSON..He gets the paycheck ,but never goes into the building to put out the fire...HE STANDS BY THE FIRE TRUCK..They can’t fire him..He is the face of diversity and makes lib bosses look good to the outside world..Maybe most of the inspectors are like Johnson..They look good to the outside world but all they are really good at is picking up their gov’t paycheck...

A local alternative newspaper used to publish the positions and salaries of local government and school district employees. There are zillions of them, and they are making fortunes PLUS their health insurance, pensions, etc.

They are NOT underfunded or understaffed. They simply don’t prioritize getting the job done.
