Mr. Tillerson emerged as a contender on the strong recommendations of James A. Baker III, the secretary of state under President George Bush, and Robert M. Gates, the former defense secretary, according to a person briefed on the process.
Mr. Kushner and Mr. Trumps chief strategist, Stephen K. Bannon, advocated strongly for Mr. Tillerson, and the president-elect became intrigued.

I’m willing to give working with Russia on certain things a try, though I am deeply skeptical of Russians and their values, as a people. I think Gen. Patton correctly stated that they are an Asiatic people who see the world completely different than we do and always will.
But that doesn’t mean we can’t find common ground on things like ISIS, though I think we should proceed cautiously- they are a devious people with agendas that don’t match ours.
No reply.
Lodi90,
Who would you pick?
Anybody but Corker & KGB Vlad’s BFF. I’m serious. And somebody please send Jared to the kids table before something bad happens. He has no business shaping these decisions.
He works for Trump executing Trumps vision. I trust Trumps instincts over yours any day. Watch and learn.
Hysterical much?
When you figure out "where to begin", I breathlessly await your compelling explanation...
Wow, Rex was an Eagle Scout. What were you?
Ah, yes, Jared, that fool whose data operation helped Trump win the G-d d--n election.
And that Steve Bannon idiot who also strongly pushed for Tillerson as well. Kids table for him, too.
They can sit there with Newt Gingrich, who says that Trump's pick for Secretary of State "couldn't have been better".
Or maybe instead you should be sitting at the kids table with your "don't know where to begin" hysterical ilk. "Butthurt" doesn't begin to encompass your reaction to this nomination...
Supports global trade deals (NAFTA, TPP, etc.)
That bothers me the most because if he’s supposed to be all about deals, well those are some pretty bad deals
Are you really defending what he did because he was an “Eagle Scout”?
I’m not a fan. Breitbart has been the largest pro-Trump site on the internet and has raised objections:
Also, Exxon Mobile donated a lot of money to Planned Parenthood. Maybe that has nothing to do with SOS, but that does speak to his character for me.
I thought it should have been Rudy. I’ve heard Rudy interviewed, and I feel like Rudy was up for the job and thought he would get it after all his hard work. When it wasn’t automatic and Trump brought in a lot of people, Rudy didn’t want to be part of the cattle call and removed his name.
You are entitled to your opinion.
I’m open and listening.
Tillerson is endorsed by James Baker, Bush 41’s SOS and Robert Gates, Bush 43’s and Obama’s Sec. of Defense.
Sobering notions, indeed.
I can think of something even more pathetic: resorting to personal attacks when one can't make valid logical points.

Allegedly. Let’s wait to see them on TV endorsing him.

Just a guess but it sure looks like Jared felt threatened by Rudy and pushed Tillerson instead. He’s building a rep for booting long time Trump supporters. Christie is another one where rumors are floating around that Jared pushed him out. That kid is way out of his “league’ and bad news, IMO.

Spot on. And now the Chamber of the Commerce will have a hotline right to the desk of the Secretary of State. Nothing good will come of that.
I haven’t heard anything regarding Rudy and Jared. I know there were issues with Jared and Christie because Christie prosecuted his father at one time and ended up putting him in jail. I do think the family helped influence Trump’s pick of Pence (which was a good pick). However, I had heard at the time that Christie was passed over for VP that he would get AG. He wanted VP and didn’t get it, and then he was passed over for AG. I read he was offered Homeland Security (as was Rudy apparently), but he turned it down. I don’t think Christie was treated fairly. He endorsed Trump very early and stayed by him.
As far as Jared, he is a very trusted advisor to Trump. My understanding is that he built a data operation which was very key to Trump’s victory.

I won’t bother because it’s clear you have a school girl crush on Trump. Reagan wasn’t always right. Trump won’t be either.

And that makes him qualified to help select the Secretary of State? I don’t think so! This kid is 35 years old and in way, way over his head.
