So why has Trump moved in such a conservative direction since his election? Interviews with several people around him turn up several answers.
1. During the campaign, Trump learned a lot about the country and how its economic vitality had been sapped and its foreign-policy standing eroded during the Obama years. He now recognizes that the problems confronting the nation require bold reforms, and delaying the treatment will only sap his political capital, former education secretary Bill Bennett says.
2. The refusal of previous GOP presidential nominees George H. W. Bush, John McCain, and George W. Bush to back Trump in the general election has liberated Trump from obligations; he owes very little to them or their followers. An entire existing infrastructure of establishment Republicans are not favored to run cabinet agencies as would normally be the case, a key Trump adviser told me. Fresh faces, new ideas, and résumés unburdened by special-interest ties move towards the top of the pile.
3. The viciousness with which left-wing allies of Hillary Clinton and their media enablers attacked Trump persuaded the New York billionaire that there was no making peace with his adversaries. He is not a traditional conservative, but he sure as hell knows who his enemies are, a Trump aide told me. He wont be forgetting that either he defangs them, or they will defang him.

He hasn't.
If anything, he was been slithering left.
Hee hee...the left lurching NRO questions Trump’s move to the right.
Too funny!!
More fake news. It is fake to say that Trump has moved to the right since his victory. I hope facebook flags this as fake news, because it is.
If this is right, I don’t want to be wrong.
He has been spending time with folks like Kellyanne Conway and Mike Pence. He has probably also noticed that conservatives are just better people who have it (comparatively) all together. Alternatively, he knows what brung him and he is reciprocating. That’s okay too.
First five posts to this thread have completely nailed John Fund! HaHaHa!

Maybe DJT is serious about making America great again?
“If only he had campaigned this way, we could have supported him. Now please believe we are relevant.”
No sale. NRO can go die.
Trump has not moved in any direction other than in Trump’s direction. Trump is Trump. There is not any input from Republicans or Democrats that can affect his direction. He knows what he is about. He won the election because of his strong personality and solid self confidence in his own abilities of judgment and discernment. He is not a Republican in any philosophical (/s) sense. He is probably quite conservative which is anti (Establishmnent)conservative and may not play out in policies and actions that Conservatives or conservatives might cavil at.
He hasn’t. He is who he always was but NRO and the rest of the screaming morons in the #Never Trump movement did not bother to listen we Trump supporters told them from the start.
Trump wants to be seen as a “winner”. In order to do that he needs to be successful in Make America Great Again”
Conservatives share that value while the Left thinks the USA is the root of all evil and need to be fundamental transformed.
Much of the Conservative agenda, and Trumps “Make America Great Again” are symbiotic positions.
Trump is just being Trump. He want to “be a winner” and he can only do that on the Right, not on the Left.
Why did Øbama campaign as left-centrist, to far left while PE, to extreme left at the start of POSOTUS, to ludicrous left now?
And the point of the article should not be in dispute. Trump is turning out to lean a lot more to the right than I anticipated. He is definitely operating in a "Take No Prisoners" mode and we are naturally thrilled with that approach. At least I am.
But was that anticipated? I don't think so. It was hoped for. We begged for it. We would have settled for a B+. We are getting an A++ with Honors.
And John Fund noticed. Good for him.
nope, just the media trying to convince you he has.
Moved to the right? Did I miss something?
I agree.
I saw Trump as a moderate-right candidate in a battle against the extreme leftist crook, Hillary. What I’ve seen so far since the election is much more reasonable than I had anticipated. I’m pleasantly surprised so far.
And yes, John Fund is a good guy.
Thank god for this little piece of news. I was beginning to worry. Trump can do no more than the best he can; that will be great even as he screws up and knows it and “fixes” it.
What I really want is information about what he is doing and a essentially why. If he gave monthly national round tables and ordinary people had a chance to talk with him, I would be delighted.
