GOP Opposition to Potential Trump Cabinet Nominees Grows

DEC 11 2016 GOP Opposition to Potential Trump Cabinet Nominees Grows by LIZ JOHNSTONE

Donald Trump's unified wall of partisan support has shown a few cracks over Cabinet appointments that run counter to both campaign promises and traditional Republican foreign policy ethos.

Breitbart, the normally pro-Trump, right-wing website formerly run by top Trump adviser Steve Bannon, accused the president-elect putting foreign labor ahead of American workers by choosing fast food CEO Andrew Puzder to lead the Department of Labor.

The Conservative Review, meanwhile, called Puzder an "open border zealot."

Meanwhile, Erick Erickson, a staunch Trump critic who applauded him for picking Sen. Jeff Sessions for attorney general, wrote for his conservative website The Resurgent that nominating former Goldman Sachs executive Steven Mnunchin would mean the ratification of the "status quo."

But it was perhaps the news that Trump intends to tap ExxonMobil CEO Rex Tillerson, who has ties to Russia and its president, Vladimir Putin, that has engendered the most vocal opposition from elected officials within his party.

Marco Rubio was one of the first Republicans to take a shot a Tillerson, with the Florida senator tweeting, "Being a 'friend of Vladimir' is not an attribute I am hoping for from a #SecretaryOfState."

Sen. John McCain told NBC News on Saturday that Tillerson's ties to Russia would be the subject of any Senate confirmation hearing. On Fox News, he said the relationship was a "matter of concern."

"You want to give the president of the United States the benefit of the doubt because the people have spoken. But Vladimir Putin is a thug, a bully and a murderer, and anybody else who describes him as anything else is lying," McCain told Fox News.

Hearing the opposition to Rex makes me want him that much more. The Senators all want Trump to elect one of their buddies so they can continue perpetual wars. Push forward President-Elect. They were never with you and they are still lead by their global masters

I also remember McCain promising a few years back that he wouldn`t seek reelection in 2016. You can never trust. MCcain

I see NBC news, names such as McCain, Rubio, Menendez, Schumer, Graham, Paul, and think “the usual suspects”, and I can’t help but yawn.

“he has since repudiated that stance and promised to staunchly represent Americans as Labor Secretary.”

and Puzder surely must know that he will be closely watched. Trust but verify-

Without 50 votes, a failure to confirm would be a huge embarrassment. If 4 GOP senators defect, we’re in trouble.

There is no anti-Trump opposition forming no matter what NBC wishes.

If our party idiots obstruct the biggest winner we’ve had since 1984, they need to be humbled and destroyed. I’ve had enough of the circular firing squad we dealt with for the past 2+ decades. Unless significant, real problems arise with these nominees or they perform badly in hearings, each should be rubber stamped. It’s our own party for the love of God. The opposition NEVER does this.

I’ve been objecting to the Tillerson pick, and I’d prefer Rudy, but the objections from McCain, Rubio, and others does give me some pleasure.

The Republicans mentioned are known for jumping up on the table, and screaming “look at me, look at me!” They only want attention, and once they have it, they’ll work with Trump.

Not too worried about them.

The Democrats are the ones who will cause problems. They want more than to just be noticed.

McCain just called Putin a murderer. Dear god. And that is better than what Trump would do for world peace ? In the interest of humanity, all these Oligarchs need to be booted out of DC.

Remember back in 2008 how we were bombarded with stories about mounting democrat opposition to Obama cabinet nominees?

No?

No one else does either.

It sounds like a very positive attribute if you plan on persuading Putin to cooperate with us. If you want to promote Cold War II, not so much.
