FBI sent planeload of agents to frame Assange in Iceland (in 2011), got snubbed by minister

The US sent a “planeload of FBI agents” to Iceland in 2011 to frame WikiLeaks and its co-founder Julian Assange, according to a former Icelandic minister of interior, who refused them any cooperation and asked them to cease their activities. the US “sent a planeload of FBI agents to Iceland seeking our cooperation in what I understood as an operation set up to frame Julian Assange and WikiLeaks,” Jonasson said.

Icelanders seemed like a tough nut to crack, though.

“Since they had not been authorized by the Icelandic authorities to carry out police work in Iceland and since a crack-down on WikiLeaks was not on my agenda, to say the least, I ordered that all cooperation with them be promptly terminated and I also made it clear that they should cease all activities in Iceland immediately,” the politician said.

Agreed, and there should be no “Sgt. Shultz” defenses allowed. No “I was just following orders.” Most FBI Agents have law degrees, they should know when they are being asked to do something that they know to be illegal.

Gentlemen, it’s wonderful to make your acquaintance.
I know many fantastic Americans. However, your services?
They were unrequested, and won’t be required - at all.
In other words, please GTFO! Have a wonderful day in Iceland!

Sounds like bull.

Before the rape accusation in Sweden, Assange hacked into several USA government and corporate databases, and he openly admitted that on a public website (possibly WikiLeaks, but I can't recall for certain).

The USA might not be able to prove an espionage case against Assange, but they can absolutely prove multiple felony hacking cases against him.

#fakenews

Planeload? Six guys? Forty? One-hundred-and twenty?

FBI? Why send them? Why not CIA?

This story is about as fake as you can get.

I dunno, but Chip East is a Reuters reporters. Reuters has reporters around the globe.

The source was a former Minister of Interior. He is the one quoted, saying “plane load of FBI agents”.

FBI and CIA are almost interchangeable, on occasion.

I did not think he was the one doing any hacking, wasn't he just publishing?

A Learjet would have the legs to just reach Iceland from the east coast. The thing is....this story got talked about in 2013 already....but this guy from Iceland doing all the talking...never mentioned the agents at the time. Now to bring it up? No...that makes the whole thing look like fake news.

Go and figure the cost of a private Learjet for such a trip. I could put the six guys on a Icelandic Air flight out of Dulles for $700 round-trip each. If any of this was true....I’d be all over the FBI or CIA for wasting $50,000 on some Icelandic junket tour.

“Not the ones I know. Maybe a certain subsection.”

I guess requirements have changed. When Hoover set up the FBI, to be an agent, you had to have either a law or accounting degree. i guess this is how degraded the FBI has become.

This is a Russian article and Russia still hosts the KGB which targets the US (it’s enemy) with propaganda. This sounds like the KGB.

However, I can imagine our FBI misbehaving in this way.

Hard to believe the Russians.
