Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) have revealed their plans to introduce a constitutional amendment that will impose term limits for both congressmen and senators.
In a joint op-ed for The Washington Post, the two Republican firebrands said that term limits would be an effective way for the new Republican administration to drain the swamp.
We believe that the rise of political careerism in modern Washington is a drastic departure from what the founders intended of our federal governing bodies. To effectively drain the swamp, we believe it is past time to enact term limits for Congress.
A policy of congressional term limits was repeatedly advocated for by President-elect Donald Trump during his presidential campaign, with Speaker of the House Paul Ryan also voicing his support for the idea.
The amendment would impose a three term limit for members of congress and a two term limit for senators.
Both Cruz and DeSantis also point to the broad support for congressional term limits, citing a Ramussen survey conducted in October that showed 74% of likely voters supported the idea.

Enough torches, clubs and pitchforks in the streets might help change their thinking!
The cream will rise to the top; only those who are truly willing to SERVE will stick around.
I’ve noticed that Trump hasn’t spoken about term limits for quite some time, he probably knows that there will be little support for it in congress, the mother of all swamps needing draining.
For all the sense term limits makes, without other Congressional reforms, the pool of Congressional staffers would gain even more mostly anonymous power. As it is, they are almost permanent, passed from one Congressman to another and even between parties. They write or co-write with lobbyists most legislation.
I agree, maybe give them a 401k for the years they served but that’s it!
Your idea will help, but voter ID laws in any form does not address the real voter fraud and that is what takes place in the polls. Those working the polls can vote as much as they want, not enforce ID laws etc. Only way to stop voter fraud for a generation is to move all states to award electoral votes based on congressional district. It deflates the popular vote argument. Eliminates the big city effects on states, i.e. Philly in PA, Charlotte in NC, Chicago in ILL, etc. The other alternative is integrated voting machines throughout each state with a voter card, such as an atm card. It can only be used once during the election day or period. Of course that would have to be a national policy and the feds can’t dictate how the states award electors to the federal offices. Of course we don’t want the feds taking more control of the states. This could have been done after 2010, when Blue wall states of MI, WI, OH, PA all had R trifectas. Zero would not have won re-election if they had changed to awarding electoral votes by congressional district. We had the support here in PA, but the state GOP chair shot it down. The dude has been chair for 20 years and has never won PA for the republican, but shot it down because he felt it would reduce PA’s influence, IOW his clout if changed. Of course T winning PA had nothing to do with that bozo. Voter ID laws do have an effect by causing fraudsters to do less, but they are worthless if those working the polls do not enforce the photo requirement. You can’t vote in PA if your name is not registered in the book, so only by those polls, i.e. the 59 or so in Philly with 100%+ turnout, where the workers do not enforce the law or actually perpetrate the crime does this fraud take place.
yes!
How about a Constitutional Amendment that prevents persons who are not natural born citizens from becoming President?
Oh, wait.
Never mind.
They don’t have to limit themselves. They can grandfather in the existing congress and put the limits on future politicians.
