In one of the more unexpected visits to take place to the penthouse at the Trump Tpower on Wednesday, Leonardo DiCaprio and the head of his foundation met with President-elect Donald Trump to discuss how jobs centered on preserving the environment can boost the economy.
In a statement to The Associated Press, Terry Tamminen, the CEO of the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, confirmed the meeting at Trump Tower in New York City. Tamminen said the pair gave a presentation to Trump, daughter Ivanka, and other members of Trump's team on how focusing on renewable, clean energy could create millions of jobs.
"Today, we presented the president-elect and his advisors with a framework which LDF developed in consultation with leading voices in the fields of economics and environmentalism that details how to unleash a major economic revival across the United States that is centered on investments in sustainable infrastructure," Tamminen said. "Our conversation focused on how to create millions of secure, American jobs in the construction and operation of commercial and residential clean, renewable energy generation."
The Oscar-winning actor has been a strong advocate of fighting climate change and preserving wildlife, and his recent documentary, Before the Flood, addresses the peril that the world faces because of climate change. He has also been repeatedly accused of hypocrisy by his critics for not practicing what he preaches, such as criss-crossing the globe in high carbon footprint private jets.
According to AP, DiCaprio previously met with Ivanka Trump and presented her with a copy of the film. The meeting with Trump's team lasted for about 90 minutes. The actor also gave the president-elect a copy of the documentary, and Trump promised to watch it, according to a person who was familiar with the meeting but not authorized to speak publicly.
Tamminen, who was secretary of California's Environmental Protection Agency under former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, said Trump was receptive and suggested they meet again next month.
"We look forward to continuing the conversation with the incoming administration as we work to stop the dangerous march of climate change, while putting millions of people to work at the same time," said Tamminen.
Despite the lip service, we doubt much if anything will come out of the meeting, which took place hours after word got out Wednesday that Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt, who refuses to accept "climate-change", and whose policies have helped fossil fuel companies, is expected to be announced as Trump's pick to lead the Environmental Protection Agency.
It was unclear if DiCaprio flew in and out of his meeting with Trump to discuss how to make the environment great again, on his private jet.
RE: Its one thing for companies to voluntarily decide to operate in the green, but its quite another to demand that they do so upon penalty of huge taxation or fines
How much different is that from telling a Company to manufacture in the USA or face huge taxation?
Methinks this is whats going on.
At first I was really concerned (especially when he met with AlGore), but it looks like this The Donald's real strategy.
And as a bonus, he gets a command performance of naysayers groveling before him !
People don’t understand Trump, he reads non-stop, he never makes a move in business without knowing everything, I mean everything. He is doing research, he listens to all opinions and takes what is good from where ever he can.
Should we post a “Miss Me Yet” photo of Obama? LOL
I never understood his appeal either. DiCaprio is a competent actor, but I've never seen him give an iconic performance of the sort that we saw from real acting greats (say, George C. Scott in Patton or Al Pacino's Michael Corleone in The Godfather).
Depp has done some more interesting roles than DiCaprio, but he's vastly overrated too. But let's face it, popularity in Hollywood has more to do with self-promotion, a highly visible personal life, and having the right image than acting talent. If it were about acting talent, Sam Rockwell would be a much bigger star than George Clooney.
The only green job I know of is, mowing the lawn.
TO UNDERSTAND WHY TRUMP IS MEETING WITH LEFTIE TOOLS, THIS IS A MUST READ:

Ivanka is truly becoming a malign influence on her father’s choices of who to meet with. First Al Gore, now this clown?
>> Methinks this is whats going on.
Yeah, he’s thinking 2020 already with this. Also, this will deflect some of (maybe just a tiny bit) of the ire when he brings back the energy industry big time in America. I mean, look who he made chief of the EPA!
Trump knows damn well that wind and solar are NOT COST-EFFECTIVE. He has said so himself! Trump will not endorse ANYTHING that is not cost-effective. EVER!
If we didnt have actors to tell us about science and stuff then like where would we be as a nation?
RE: Trump knows damn well that wind and solar are NOT COST-EFFECTIVE. He has said so himself! Trump will not endorse ANYTHING that is not cost-effective. EVER!
Whether something is cost effective or not should be for PRIVATE individuals and companies to decide. if someone like Leonardo wants to lose his money on green energy, nobody’s stopping him.
What I don’t want is GOVERNMENT IMPOSITION.
ROTFL! I love how he strings these people along!
I would hope I had the patience to do the same.
This is pure comedy gold!
“green jobs” = “rat hole”
Believe he already had swimming lessons from Ted Kennedy years ago.
Maybe he’s asking Leo for his opinion on soil sequestration and other means to best counter global warming caused by anthropogenic activities?
The top execs, all Friends Of Al, got their golden parachutes.
Liberals all got to pat themselves on the back because of the triumph of Good Intentions over Actual Results.
The only fly in the ointment was the evaporation of billions of taxpayer dollars, but hey, that's all Free Money anyway. It comes from us Little People who inhabit Flyover Country.
