It would help to cut voter fraud to have strict voter ID laws, but that in itself would not be enough.

The fraudulent ballots uncovered in Wayne County, Michigan during the recount were not tied to the identity of the voters. They were tied to fraudulent ballot counting. When there is a package certified to contain 360 ballots and it only contains 60, this has nothing to do with who cast the votes.

In Illinois I once worked as an election judge. I was shocked to find that many judges who were presented as Republican judges were actually Democrats. The voters would see someone sitting as a Republican judge and think that the integrity of the voting process is protected. Instead, the room is filled with only Democrats, and when there are no voters in the room the judges can do whatever they want without accountability.

I suspect the same thing happened in Michigan. Otherwise, nobody would have had the opportunity to lie about the number of ballots stored in each package.

Voter ID laws, no matter how tight, simply would not impact this type of fraud.

In 2014, I was the ONLY Republican working in a 4 precinct voting location.

Yup. Solid voter ID will help in a few states, but you’ve got to have the ballot boxes verified (and you’ve got to maintain control of the ballots, both those voted and blank).

The major fraud is by insiders “voting for” a lot of those who didn’t show up on Election Day.

Would like to suggest that voter reform incl
ude a provision that no precinct vote can be certified until
the number of votes cast reflects exactly the number of persons
signed in less any invalid (unreadable) ballots. Someone else has suggested every counted ballot and voter sign-in has to have matching fingerprints so that they can’t substitute ballots.(Bonus that purple ink on the finger prevents double voting. No statewide election can be certified by the SOS until ballot count match is completed. Cameras in every voting place certified functioning and showing clearly the ballot boxes. Ballot boxes when sealed, are sealed with numbered, tamper-proof tape just like drug screen samples. Machine votes have to print a hard copy before the vote is cast, which the voter can correct before finalizing, plus a hard copy for checking.

What is needed is a law that requires that the names and addresses of everyone who cast a vote be published within a week after the election. This would eliminate vote counts that do not match how many votes were actually cast. It also would eliminate illegal voting, dead people voting, and people voting more than once in separate locations. In addition, voting should be ONLY on election day, at the polls, no absentee ballots, no mail in ballots. A remedy can be applied to those serving in the military who are unable to vote otherwise.
