In a private meeting in New York, Mayor Rahm Emanuel delivered a letter to President-elect Donald Trump, urging him to continue a federal program that allows some undocumented immigrants to avoid deportation.
The letter, signed by Emanuel and 16 other big city mayors, asked the Trump administration to continue the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) system enacted by President Barack Obama, until Congress passes a comprehensive plan to overhaul the immigration system. The federal program allows immigrants brought to the country illegally as children to avoid deportation and get work permits.
“Nearly 742,000 undocumented youth have participated in DACA since it began in 2012. With work authorization and without the fear of deportation, these young people have been able to participate in and contribute to our cities, our country and our economy. These youth have deep economic and social ties to our nation. Many of them have been educated in American schools and employed by American business owners. They paid fees, submitted fingerprints and underwent background checks,” the letter said.
In his letter, Emanuel said DACA is good for the national economy and national security, since the vast majority of those in the program are employed at American businesses, and many of them have started their own businesses, while others are serving in the military as translators and medical personnel.
“Ensuring DREAMers can continue to live and work in their communities without fear of deportation is the foundation of sound, responsible immigration policy. Ending DACA would disrupt the lives of close to one million young people, and it would disrupt the sectors of the American economy, as well as our national security and public safety, to which they contribute,” the letter said.

DACA was an illegal action to legalize illegal aliens, which Obama had no authority to do.
If we had an opposition party they would have sued to stop him like the states sued to stop his second illegal legalizing of illegal aliens, DAPA.
Trump MUST repeal DACA if we are to get back to the rule of law.
Illegal aliens MUST go home and apply like everybody else if they want to be Americans.

Ignoring and circumventing our own laws is a “key policy”?
No. No Amnesty. No systematic evasion of the law. No “comprehensive reform” of anything. Pass narrow laws that stand on their own merits. Pass a law fixing legal immigration. Pass a law fixing work visas. Build the wall!
America needs:
1. A road along the entire border, navigable by Jeep or similar vehicle, with triple strand concertina wire barriers 100-200 yards on each side monitored frequently for vandalism. That can be done very quickly and will immediately slow the crossings of illegals. We must secure the border so illegals cannot easily enter (or reenter after being deported).
2. At least one additional barrier beyond those double barbed wire obstacles, whether a fence, a wall, or something else physical to prevent unauthorized passage. We must secure the border so illegals cannot easily enter (or reenter after being deported). STRONGLY encourage Mexico to erect a barrier on their side to help keep all cross border traffic legal.
3. Pregnant illegals who are not immediately deported should be held outside the United States so their anchor babies will not be US citizens. Reinterpret the 14th Amendment more accurately so that the anchor babies of illegals do not receive citizenship when their parents were not subject to US jurisdiction through legal entry.
4. All illegals who committed the crime of entering our country illegally or of overstaying after legal entry and then committed any other crime while in our country should be deported. No exceptions. Those deported should be permanently barred from any legal reentry or path to citizenship.
5. Any state or local government with a “sanctuary” policy should be barred from receiving federal funds; and illegals who access social services, including schools, should be required to be reported to ICE.
6. All illegals who committed the crime of entering our country illegally in the past two (four?) years, and thus have not been here long enough to have stronger ties here than at home, should be deported. In other words, no new growth in our illegal population. Those deported should be permanently barred from any legal reentry or path to citizenship. No exceptions.
7. Once those are taken care of, we should deport the remaining illegals (or better, encourage them to go home on their own). Allow those who go home on their own to apply for legal reentry and legal status. Those deported should be permanently barred from any legal reentry or path to citizenship - again, no exceptions. For those who go home on their own, we should take into account in their visa applications any past history of productive work in the United States, English proficiency if they learned our language while here, and any record of living here without using welfare and other social services.
8. The only way for illegals to gain legal status should be to apply from their home countries for legal entry after voluntarily going home. Note: We also need to fix legal immigration so that the number of immigrants approved by Congress and by the President can obtain visas in a reasonable time to come here, and they can do it from the countries we wish to receive immigrants from, after thorough background checks.

Either we’re a nation of laws or we’re not. We have an immigration system. Illegals are illegals and are not allowed.
