Chancellor Angela Merkel was re-elected as leader of the CDU at the party conference on Tuesday, meaning she will be their Chancellor candidate at next years election.
Merkel received 89.5 percent of the votes from the roughly 1,000 delegates who were present at the conference in Essen, western Germany, according to German media. The vote secures her a further two years as leader of the party. [ ]
While the vote share may sound impressive, it was the second worst score she has achieved and a significant drop from 2014 when 96.7 percent of delegates voted for her, and a further drop from 2012 when she won an overwhelming 97.9 percent, according to the Süddeutsche Zeitung.

Proof positive that Germany is now insane.
The party will have to go down with her.
The German people do not realize or do not care where they are heading. Probably gave up some time ago.
This is NOT a country wide vote. It’s a party only vote. This is like the Dems putting in Obama in 2012 as the DNC Rep.
The country wide vote is next Fall.
Not Germany necessarily. Her party? Yes, much like the Dems here. I am hoping that since she will be on the ballot for her party, the German people will have enough sense to elect someone else. We’ll see.
Germany has their own Nancy Pelosi !!!
Or does the US Congress have it’s own Angela Merkel?
Insanity - doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.
Germans keep on approving of her despite wondering why they get assaulted, raped, and murdered due to her policies.

Our Democratic party is a shining example of how to destroy yourself as a party...
So, Germany is doomed.
Yes, just like Pelosi getting re-elected minority leader was a party-only vote.
However, in Germany’s parliamentary system, it means that Merkel is their next Chancellor should the CDU win in elections next year.
Still, one would think that they’d have second thoughts on her due to reputation.
Either that or it’s another rule-by-crisis setup.
Recount!!!
Wir sind ihr!!!
90% of Germans "approve" of Merkel?
That's about the same amount as the people of Cuba who just LOVED Castro.
I just don't believe this.
