Herb?
Years and years ago. You can now buy from a “limited supply” of stale turkey sandwiches for $12.50.
Yes, and it’s why people are so pushy trying to board first, they know all the bins will be taken up by too much $hit.
I haven’t flown anything less than a twelve hour drive in over ten years.
Between boarding, off boarding, it restrictions, absurd security protocols that are of limited value and slow things down (I’ve been to Israel I know how it can be done and quickly), taxi time, etc..
6 hour drive is faster almost always, 8 hours usually breaks even, when you throw in rental car fees on the other side, etc...I can’t justify it unless there is a time related drive demanding absolute quickest then the cut off is 6-8 depending on weather.
My teams grumble, but not too much since I follow the same rules and always fly economy while letting them fly biz internationally.
I must be taking the wrong Southwest flights, missed the brawls. People have been more than polite on flights I have been on. I love Southwest, never have had an issue with them.
I don’t really like to fly.
My best friend is a well-known guitarist. He travels the world. He counts on the overhead bins as a safe place to put his guitars in their gigbags, He will not be happy!
See my #67. Zaza will not be happy!
GMTA - last flight was 2009. Adding up the time spent in the same way as you, throw in that my wife is now retired and can travel with me and it just makes sense. We want to do an Alaska trip soon so that can’t be done without flight and I’ll just have to grin and bear it.
As to international, we had a good time in Europe when I was in the military and always thought we’d get back there. Reading the headlines on the current situation with the refugees and the luster is kind of off that idea. I’m not interested in spending that kind of $$$$ to be irritated.
The airline is a curious business. Apparently at net the industry has only broke even, and never made a net profit.
Don't forget to add 2 - 4 hours for to/from airport ground travel and TSA.
I have an optimistic view of the future and airline policies from fares to TSA, because Trump OWNED his own airline.
He is very much aware just how much America’s morale has dropped because of how bad flying has become. One profound way to MAGA is to make America FEEL good again. I hate flying because of TSA, I hate flying 6 hours in a torture rack of a seat in a 737 thats too small for such long trips, like flying from Alaska non stop to Hawaii, i refuse, if anything i will take the 3 hour flight from Anchorage to Seattle and THEN board a much bigger A330 from Hawaiian Airlines which offers better service anyway.
I believe the carryon has gotten way out of hand, its unsafe in an emergency, people die trying to get their carryon out of bins during escape procedures.
And make the airlines or else a mandate, make better seats!
You can drive to Alaska. I’ve never made the trip but I know any number of people who have. Hawaii, now...
Very true about driving to Alaska but the time to do so does not exist in a standard vacation schedule. However, that would be a great retirement trip!
For the Alaska trip since its vacation I recommend a rail trip - beautiful scenery isn’t wasted though it will take you longer. Cost is similar as I understand (except extra meals). But as you said your retired so time isn’t such a major concern;)
Yes, I’d love to drive that road someday. The Hawaii bit is sort of a recurring thing around here; my wife suggests a trip to Hawaii, and I’m all for it as soon as we can drive there. (I’ll relent before long and surprise her.)
Some dim said he drove to Hawaii didn’t he a few years ago?
It was only a 65-minute flight, so the Pilot-in-Charge elected to land at our destination and have LE waiting at the gate.
But that episode was not what I'd paid for and I deeply resented being captive to those uncouth people's drama. Subsequently, I wrote a letter to Southwest's CEO, describing my experience and suggesting that the company train its Cabin Crews in "conflict resolution".
I received a canned response... So sorry you were inconvenienced. We strive to be the best airline...
So, I've never flown Southwest since, but I'm glad to hear that you have enjoyed trouble-free flights with them. :)
I don’t remember it, but it wouldn’t surprise me. Anyway, why would there be interstate highways on Oahu if you couldn’t drive there from another state?
