Former Vice President and climate advocate Al Gore met with Donald Trump at Trump Tower in New York City today.
Gore said he had a "lengthy and very productive session" with the president-elect, who has previously called climate change a "hoax."
"I found it an extremely interesting conversation and to be continued and Im just going to leave it at that," Gore told reporters of the meeting with the president-elect "... It was a sincere search for areas of common ground."
Gore also met with Trumps daughter Ivanka Trump.
The meetings with the two Trumps came against the backdrop of a New York Times report that the future first daughter also last week met with actor Leonardo DiCaprio, an outspoken advocate on climate change issues. According to that report, the actor gave Ivanka Trump a copy of his documentary Before the Flood.
Politico has also reported that Ivanka Trump intends to make climate change one of her signature issues with her father in the White House. The transition team has yet to specify what role the future first daughter may play in a Trump administration but has referred to her as an adviser to the transition.
While the specifics of Ivanka Trumps views on the issue of climate change are not publicly known, the Trump transition made clear as recently as Friday that the future administration will take a different approach to the issue than the Obama administration has.
On Friday, a leaked internal memo said that the president-elect supports the completion of the Dakota Access oil pipeline, which the Army Corps of Engineers on Sunday blocked from running through a disputed piece of land. Native Americans and environmental advocates say the pipeline threatens sacred sites and a local water supply.

It seems that what Trump has done is give Gore and global warming more credibility than it deserves.
“He didnt overcome massive opposition from the demonrats, the press, and his own bloody party to become president only to give away the farm.”
From your lips to God’s ear.
The Bushes, on the other hand, seemed to have to-do lists on which every line item read, “Give away the farm.” As did many pubbies elected since Ronaldus Magnus.
I use the net.
Rush said today that global warming is the Holy Grail of the democratic party. No way in hell he flips on it. Hes playing Gore.
For the most of prehistory that is true. But for the current increase in CO2 (120 ppm and rising) to be caused by warming there would need to be 12C or so of prior warming in the last 800 years or so. That did not happen. Therefore the rise in CO2 comes from something else. The vast majority of the cause is fossil. Some from recent decreases in vegetation. A very small amount from recent increases in volcanic activity. Fossil and cement making are the simplest explanation.
Not when it is being made. The reduction of limestone to quicklime is a significant source of CO2.
Finally....the name surfaces who has the best argument against Global Warming.
His appearance with Glenn Beck was so educational.
You have missed the point of my post. The issue is not the origin of the CO2, but the causal relationship supposedly demonstrated by Gore’s chart. My point was that, historically, the rise in temperature was the cause of the rise in CO2. Gore had, incorrectly, asserted the reverse; i.e., that increases in CO2 had caused the temperature to rise.
The current increase in atmospheric CO2 is usually attributed to the increase in the burning of fossil fuels. This is probably true, but may also be attributed to other causes.
Gore said he had a "lengthy and very productive session" with the president-elect, who has previously called climate change a "hoax."
Over the longer run CO2 has also followed weathering although weathering is slow. But the uplift of the Himalayas, Caucasus, Alps, Rockies, etc all contributed to an unusual lowering of CO2 to starvation levels never before seen in earth's history.
The lack of CO2 led to the evolution of C4 plants which further exacerbated the lack of CO2. But mainly the lack of CO2 has led to one of the most protracted cold periods in earth's history. Not the very coldest since there were plausible frozen states, but the longest glacial period, which we are still in.
Try telling that the dopes here who are saying that Ivanka ought to run for President in 8 years.
