They were strong-armed into it. Play ball or be regulated out of existence (or have a Gibson Guitar style “investigation” into their business).

Ford put up a good fight against the CAFE laws and you have to remember that Ford did not take any bail out money.

It was GM and Dodge that boasted that the 55mpg auto was possible under the CAFE regs and they took the bail out money.

Never again will I by a GM (well never drove them anyway) or Dodge (there 1 ton Diesels is all I drove) again. Just bought a new Ford FX4. Sweet.

I see a lot of hybrids on the road, even in rural KY. I’ve been to Phoenix, Seattle, Indianapolis and Chicago in the last couple of months and I saw TONS of them in the cities.

What gives?
