Retired Army Gen. David Petraeus, who is vying for the top diplomatic post in the next administration, said Sunday he did not cast a ballot in last month's presidential election.
"I don't vote, so that's an easy answer," Petraeus told ABC News when asked if he backed President-elect Trump in his campaign against defeated Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton.

Your screen-name reminds me of a time at Ft. Bragg
I lurked for 3 years before I joined. The players were great as they have always been.
We are surrounded, that simplifies our situation.
Petraeus once called himself a “Rockefeller Republican.”
He also started a “gun-control” group with Mark “Gifford” Kelly in June of this year.
Dumping him is a good idea!
Gen. Petraeus has been compromised.
End of story.

True and not all that uncommon for career officers, myself included. (Since retired, I haven’t missed a single voting opportunity)
General Marshall, Gen Eisenhower are excellent non-partisan examples where they considered voting partaking in a partisan activity.
Honorable men.
Not a good example to our youth, since without people voting for Trump we would have been stuck with Hillary.
He is out of the running for a nominated position. Oh well.
There is a contingent of Military that do not vote until they are out of service. Non-partisans.
I put in 20 as an officer. Never once heard such a thing. Doesn’t mean it ain’t true. Just never heard and I went thru contentious elections there.
Yes, there is and passing on classified intel to his lover is the least of it.
I know Trump thinks compared with Hillary he got a raw deal, but that’s hardly a qualifier for SoS.
Romney is a snake and I’d sooner him than Petraeus.
True, that.
Excerpted from CNN.com, story from June of this year...
(CNN)Retired U.S. Army Gen. David Petraeus, who has long resisted calls to run for political office, is teaming up with retired NASA astronaut Mark Kelly to create a new group urging greater gun control.
The two announced on Friday that they were launching Veterans Coalition for Common Sense to encourage elected leaders to "do more to prevent gun tragedies." The group will feature veterans from every branch of the military who are urging lawmakers to toughen gun laws, the organization said in a news release.
Marshall and Eisenhower were non-voters while serving:
“As the historian Richard Kohn told a Harpers Magazine round-table on the state of the armed forces, ‘One of the great pillars in our history that has prevented military intervention in politics has been the militarys nonpartisan attitude. Thats why Gen. George Marshalls generation of officers essentially declined to vote at all, as did generations before them.’
“George Marshalls generation of officers essentially declined to vote at all, as did generations before them.

Okay. Well, I came a bit later than that generation. Me? I voted first when I was 2LT. Never stopped voting, even in school board elections. Never missed a presidential vote. Never once met a military officer in my generation who revealed declining to vote. Is all I’m saying.
So, Eisenhower and Marshall are not deserving respect and were pissing on the graves of their fellow warriors?
Post 7 and 44 for counter-point.
You may disagree about their decision to vote or not, but to attack them because they stood on principle to remain non-partisan is a bit much, is it not.
Oh, and Petraeus wasn’t in uniform for this election. Not voting in this one is as bad as not speaking up after the Benghazi lies. Dear Lord and PE Trump, please do not allow this self-disqualifying reprobate to have even a visitor’s tour of the State Department.
I understand. I first heard about the non-voting practice when in OTS back in 1980. Air Force had a “Project Warrior” program starting and I read about their effort and dedication to remain pure, in no way partisan.
Haven’t missed a vote since I retired.
Cheers. . .
More the reason to kick him as far from any government title as possible.
That makes no sense since the vote is secret. Register as an Independent.
Most generals, in my limited experience, are political ass lickers. Too many turds float to the top.
Nice to know that your commander is getting his comforts on the side while the troops are under fire.
We don’t need any cabinet members who have to check in regularly with their parole officer.
He’s an Establishment person if he didn’t support Trump.
He sets off my “creep” alarm.
He’s already shown the world his immoral character. As another poster stated, now “every foreign country will be sending over their honeytraps” (paraphrased),
He’s compromised, and a creepy douchebag.
Just say NO to Petraeus.
